What Should Be on Your MW4 Launch Day Checklist?

The MW4 launch day checklist for October 23, 2026: preload dates, the 115 GB PC install, TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot, Beta reward carryover, and what still has no confirmed date, such as Ranked and Season 1.

What Should Be on Your MW4 Launch Day Checklist?

Your MW4 launch day checklist comes down to six things: preload early (PC opens October 15 at 9 AM PT), clear at least 115 GB on an SSD, turn on TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot if you play on PC, sign in to the Activision account you used in the Beta, know your unlock time (midnight local on October 23), and don't expect Ranked or the Warzone integration on day one. Get those right and launch night is spent playing instead of watching a download bar.

One more thing to plan for is the grind. Soldier Rank runs to 55 before Prestige, and the camo tracks are long. Most players simply grind in public matches. If week-one SBMM makes that miserable, MW4 bot lobbiesfrom $4.99 are one option, but you don't need them. The rest of this checklist is free.

The MW4 launch day checklist: key dates

Verdict: four dates matter, and only three are locked.

MilestoneDate / timeWho it applies toStatus
PC preloadOct 15, 9:00 AM PTDigital pre-purchases on Steam, Battle.net, Xbox on PCConfirmed
Console preloadNot announcedPS5, Xbox Series X\S, Switch 2
Campaign Early AccessOct 16 (PT)Digital pre-orders only (Standard or Vault)Confirmed
Full launchOct 23, midnight local timeEveryoneConfirmed

MW4 is out on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. There's no PS4 or Xbox One version. Campaign Early Access covers the campaign only. Multiplayer and DMZ open for everyone on October 23. Disc copies don't get early access. Activision also says unlock times can shift between time zones, so check our MW4 release time by region guide for your local time.

Pro tip: As of early October, the console preload window still hadn't been announced. Leave auto-updates and rest mode downloads switched on, so your console starts the download the moment it opens.

PC checklist: storage, security, drivers

Verdict: the security settings are what will actually stop you, not your graphics card.

  • Storage: You need 115 GB free on an SSD. A hard drive doesn't meet the requirement, and Activision says the install will grow with mandatory updates and seasonal content. Some third-party sites have printed other sizes (70 GB and 120 GB have both appeared). Go with the official 115 GB and leave extra room.
  • TPM 2.0 + Secure Boot: Both are required on PC. Lots of PCs have the hardware but ship with these settings turned off in the BIOS. To check TPM, press Windows + R and run tpm.msc. Check Secure Boot in System Information.
  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit (latest update) is the minimum. Windows 11 is recommended.
  • GPU floor: GTX 970/1060, RX 470 or Arc A580 is the minimum. The recommended tier (RTX 3060 Ti, RX 6600 XT or Arc B580 with 16 GB RAM) targets 90 FPS at High settings. That's Activision's own target, not an independent benchmark.
  • Drivers: Activision lists AMD 26.7.1 and NVIDIA 616.56 as recommended. Install them before launch night, not during it.
Pro tip: If you play on the Xbox PC app, MW4 supports shader preloading. Let it finish before you queue, so you aren't sitting through shader compiles on your first match.

Account checklist: rewards and what carries over

Verdict: your Beta cosmetics carry over, your Beta progress doesn't.

Activision has confirmed that cosmetic Beta Rewards are tied to your Activision Account and arrive at launch. Your Player Level, weapon levels and unlocks from the Beta all reset. That makes the account you log in with important:

  1. Sign in with the same Activision account you played the Beta on.
  2. If you pre-ordered, the Hunter Killer Operator Skin should be available in MW4 at launch.
  3. If something is missing after launch, look in the in-game Armory before you open a support ticket.

One more thing to know: MW4 is not on Game Pass at launch. If you were planning to play it through a subscription, you'll need to buy it.

What won't be live on October 23

Verdict: launch day is Campaign, Multiplayer and DMZ. The rest comes later.

  • Ranked Play: No date announced. In recent Call of Duty games, Ranked has arrived weeks after launch.
  • Season 1 and the Warzone integration: Activision has only said Season 1 arrives "shortly after" launch. Estimates range from early November to December. None of them are confirmed.
  • Last-gen Warzone: Warzone on PS4 and Xbox One stops working when Season 1 arrives.
  • BlackCell: The first Battle Pass perks are tied to Season 1, not day one.

That makes the first week a good time to level weapons and Soldier Rank before competitive modes open.

Your first session: what to do first

Verdict: build your classes before you touch Prestige.

MW4 has two Prestige options, Regular and Classic. Classic is a full reset that also wipes your Create-a-Class setups. Finish the builds you depend on before you choose it. For camos, the launch lineup has 33 weapons and nine mode-based mastery tracks, plus four Pyroclast Prestige camos. If you're deciding where to spend your first nights, our breakdown of the fastest mode for MW4 mastery camos compares Multiplayer, DMZ and Warzone.

Related questions

Can you play MW4 multiplayer early? No. Only the campaign unlocks early, on October 16, and only for digital pre-orders. Multiplayer, DMZ and Warzone open for everyone at the same time.

Does a physical copy need a download? Expect one. Your console still has to install the game and any launch patch, so leave plenty of free storage either way.

Is the console preload date confirmed? Not yet, as of this writing. One third-party site says it will open before October 16, but we couldn't find an official Activision announcement confirming that.

Quick answers

What time does MW4 unlock? Midnight local time on October 23, 2026. Activision notes the timing can vary by region.

How much space does MW4 need on PC? 115 GB on an SSD at launch, and more as updates arrive.

Will MW4 run without TPM 2.0? No. TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are both required on PC.

Once the checklist is done, the long part is the weapon and camo grind, which takes many hours in public matches with full SBMM. Plenty of players are happy to grind it out themselves. If you'd rather have more control over your lobbies, our MW4 bot lobbiesfrom $4.99 are an option from launch day.
