MW4 Release Time by Region Countdown: When Can You Play?

Activision says Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 unlocks at midnight local time on Friday, October 23, 2026. So in every region, the release time countdown ends at 12:00 AM on the 23rd wherever you live. Activision's September 29 PC post confirmed that time. It also said PC preload opens October 15 at 9 AM PT. As of October 3 that leaves 20 days to launch, 13 days to Campaign Early Access, and 12 days to PC preload.

There is one caveat, and it's covered below. If you plan to spend your launch-week 2XP on Soldier Rank, you have options. Verdict: midnight local is the official answer. Plan around it.

The official wording is "midnight local time." That means a player in Sydney gets in many hours before a player in Los Angeles. The table shows when midnight hits in each region and the matching UTC time, so you can compare regions.

Two daylight-saving traps catch people every year:

• UK: clocks go back on October 25, so launch day is still BST (UTC+1).
• Eastern Australia: daylight saving starts in early October, so launch day is AEDT (UTC+11), not AEST. Some sites list 2 PM for Australia. That's the old offset.

Pro tip: "Midnight local" on console usually goes by the region on your store account, not where you're sitting. If you've moved country or use an account from another region, check which storefront your copy came from.

Is There a Single Global Unlock? (Not Confirmed)

Verdict: some sites predict one. Activision hasn't said so.

Third-party sites don't agree here. One widely shared table says everyone gets in at once at 9:00 PM PT on October 22, which is midnight ET. Under that model, the UK gets in at 5 AM and Central Europe at 6 AM. Another outlet lists midnight local for PS5 and midnight ET for Steam. A third expects multiplayer servers to switch on later on launch morning, Pacific time. All of these are guesses based on past launches. None of them comes from Activision.

This is a real possibility. Older Call of Duty launches used a global PC time even when consoles unlocked at midnight local. But the only official MW4 statement right now is midnight local. If Activision publishes a per-platform chart closer to launch, go with that chart over this page.

Pro tip: Check the countdown on your own platform's store page or launcher in the final 48 hours. That's the most reliable sign of when your copy will actually start.

PC preload at 9 AM PT works out to noon ET, 5 PM in the UK and 6 PM in Central Europe on October 15. Activision hasn't given an hour for Campaign Early Access. How to Be Playing the Minute It Unlocks

• Preload early. On PC, start the download on October 15. Don't wait until the night before.
• Check the install. A download stuck at 99% won't let you in at midnight.
• Install the Xbox PC app if you're on PC. Activision says it delivers precompiled shaders through Advanced Shader Delivery, so your first launch is quicker.
• Expect queues. Midnight local spreads the load across time zones, but busy regions can still see login queues and server trouble. Activision's store fine print warns that start times can be affected by outages.

What time does MW4 come out in the UK? Midnight BST on Friday, October 23, based on Activision's midnight-local statement. If Activision switches to a single global unlock at midnight ET, that would mean 5:00 AM BST. Right now that's only a prediction.

Does MW4 come out on October 22 in America? On the official midnight-local model, no. US players unlock at 12:00 AM on October 23 in their own time zone. The "October 22, 9 PM PT" time you'll see online assumes one global unlock, which Activision hasn't confirmed.
