Does MW4 Campaign Early Access Start October 16? Who Qualifies?
Yes. MW4 Campaign Early Access starts Friday, October 16, 2026 (PT) for digital pre-orders of the Standard or Vault Edition. Here's who qualifies, what's playable, and what Activision still hasn't confirmed.

Yes. MW4 Campaign Early Access starts on Friday, October 16, 2026 (Pacific Time) if you digitally pre-order or pre-purchase the Standard Digital Edition or Vault Edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. That's seven days before the worldwide launch on October 23. Disc copies don't get it, and neither does Game Pass.
You only get the campaign during that week. Multiplayer, DMZ and Warzone stay locked until October 23, so weapon XP, camo grinds and Soldier Rank all start on launch day for everyone. You can grind those yourself, or use something like our MW4 weapon leveling servicefrom $4.99 once servers open. Below we cover what's confirmed and what's still unknown.
MW4 campaign early access on October 16: the confirmed facts
Short version: the date is official, but the unlock hour isn't.
Activision announced Campaign Early Access on June 12, 2026, and repeated the October 16 date when it posted the Tokyo Game Show campaign trailer on September 17. As of today (October 1), that's 15 days to early access and 22 days to full launch.

The official announcement puts an asterisk next to the October 16 date. That's standard legal fine print meaning the date could still change. Assume October 16, and check callofduty.com in launch week.
What time does it unlock?
We don't know yet. Activision hasn't given an hour. In past years, Call of Duty campaign early access has gone live at 10:00 AM PT. MW3's did in November 2023, for example. Some sites already list 10 AM PT for MW4, but that's an educated guess, not an announcement. Plan around it and don't count on it.
Quick-start checklist
- Buy digitally. Pre-order or pre-purchase the Standard Digital Edition ($69.99) or Vault Edition ($99.99) from your platform's store before October 16.
- Skip the disc. Physical pre-orders don't get early access.
- Don't count on Game Pass. Xbox's own store page says MW4 isn't available on Game Pass at launch.
- Make room on your drive. Clear SSD space now. On PC, preload is reported to open October 15 at 9:00 AM PT.
- Check for the official unlock time in the week of October 12.
Is the digital pre-order worth it for early access?
Verdict: yes if you care about the story, probably not if you only play multiplayer.
The Standard Digital Edition already includes early access. The Vault Edition adds extras like operator packs and BlackCell, but no extra days of early access.
Pros
- Seven days with the full campaign before launch
- You avoid spoilers, which will spread fast once early access goes live
- Standard Digital qualifies, so you don't need to pay $99.99
- No codes to redeem: digital store purchases are validated automatically
Cons
- Campaign only. You can't touch multiplayer, DMZ or Warzone until October 23
- No official unlock time yet
- No refunds through resale, unlike a disc
- Activision hasn't published an official campaign length or mission count, so you can't judge how much a week is really worth
About the story: Price is on the run, war has broken out on the Korean Peninsula, and a villain called Archer is going after a weapon that could upend the world order. Infinity Ward is leading development.
What happens on October 23?
Everyone gets the full game, and the real grind begins. Multiplayer progression, weapon levels and mastery camos all start at zero. Your early-access head start only covers the story. Early access gives you the story a week early, but every weapon level and camo challenge still starts from zero on October 23. Leveling a full arsenal by hand in public matches takes a lot of evenings. Bot lobbies are one option for a faster solo grind, and our MW4 bot lobbiesfrom $4.99 are one way to get them.
