How to Use Prestige Tokens in MW4 (Permanent Unlock Tokens)
MW4's 'prestige token' is the Permanent Unlock Token you get for each Classic Prestige. Here's how to redeem it (Career, Progression, Multiplayer Level Unlocks), what's worth spending it on, and the rules you can't undo.

The "prestige token" in MW4 is the Permanent Unlock Token. You get one each time you enter a Classic Prestige, and it lets you keep one Level Unlock item — a perk, a killstreak or a weapon — so it stays unlocked after your level resets. To use it: Career → Progression → Multiplayer Level Unlocks → pick the item → Permanent Unlock (bottom-left of the screen).
How to redeem your Prestige token, step by step
- Reach Level 55 and enter Classic Prestige — Regular Prestige does not award a token.
- Open the Career menu.
- Select Progression.
- Open Multiplayer Level Unlocks.
- Scroll to the item you want to keep.
- Press Permanent Unlock in the bottom-left corner and confirm.
What to spend it on
Spend the token on what you would otherwise wait longest to get back:
- High-level perks and killstreaks first. These unlock late, so after a Classic reset you would be without them for most of the climb.
- Late-unlock weapons next, if you rely on one in your main class.
- Skip early-level items. You will re-unlock them within your first few matches anyway.
- Check your blueprints. Weapon Blueprints from the Store or Battle Pass stay available whatever your level, so you may not need a token for a gun you already own a blueprint of.
Rules worth knowing before you spend it
- One token per Classic Prestige. Regular Prestige keeps your unlocks instead, so it gives no token.
- No refunds. A spent token can't be moved to another item.
- You choose the path each Prestige. Going Classic again later earns another token; going Regular doesn't.
Weighing up whether Classic is worth it at all? The trade-off — 20% more XP and a token against losing your unlocks — is covered in Classic vs Regular Prestige, and the full level ladder in our MW4 max level guide.
Getting back to 55 faster after a Classic reset
A Classic reset means re-levelling your account and re-unlocking your loadout. Two things cut that time: MW4 Double XP codesfrom $7.99, which stack with the Classic 20% boost, and MW4 Bot Lobbiesfrom $3.99 — matches with 5 bots on the enemy team that you play on your own account, about 10 minutes per lobby, with your kills and wins counting toward your stats like any other match.
Quick answers
Why can't I see the Permanent Unlock button? You haven't earned a token yet. It only appears after you enter a Classic Prestige.
Does Regular Prestige give a token? No. Regular keeps all your unlocks, so there is nothing to protect.
Can I unlock any item with it? Any Level Unlock item that would be lost on a reset, such as a perk, killstreak or weapon.
