Fastest Way to Level Up Guns in MW4: Apex Unlock Plan (2026)
The fastest way to level up guns in MW4: one gun, Double Weapon XP, and small-map objective modes, plus a shared-attachment order that gets you to Apex Attachments sooner. Includes real hour and match counts and an honest look at ban risk.

The fastest way to level up guns in MW4 right now is to run one gun at a time in small-map objective modes or Shipment 24/7, keep a Double Weapon XP token going, and let shared attachments speed up every gun after your first. Even played well, a 72-level assault rifle like the M4 still takes an average player about 4–9 hours of public matches. If you'd rather not spend that time, our MW4 weapon leveling servicefrom $12.00 can take the gun to Max Level with its Apex Attachment unlocked.
Timing matters too. Season 1 starts November 6 and brings new weapons, including the Cronen Osprey with 70 levels of its own. Warzone also joins the shared weapon progression at that point. Every gun you max before then is one less in the queue.
Quick-start checklist
- Check the cap first. Open the gun's Progression tab in Gunsmith. Max levels run from 37 (.50 GS) to 75 (KG-7 Vulcan).
- Equip one gun. Two at most. Kills with a gun that's already maxed don't help the one you're grinding.
- Use Double Weapon XP, not Double XP. Regular Double XP speeds up your rank, not your guns. In MW4, tokens only count down while you're in a match.
- Queue high-action playlists. Shipment 24/7, or Hardpoint and Kill Confirmed on Kill Block.
- Finish every match. You lose the end-of-match XP if you leave early.
- Reroll Daily Challenges that don't fit the gun you're using.
- Max your first gun in a class before starting the next one, so shared attachments carry over.
The fastest way to level up guns in MW4, ranked
Verdict: kills per minute decides everything. Any method that gets you more fights per minute wins.
| Method | Approx. weapon levels per match | Catch | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bot lobby (5 enemy bots) | ~6 per 10-min match | Costs money | Fastest steady option |
| Shipment 24/7 + Decoys + DDOS | ~9 per match (player reports) | Decoy unlocks at player level 42; could get nerfed | Strong while it lasts |
| Kill Block / small-map objective | Above public average | You still have to win fights against real players | Best free option for most people |
| Standard 6v6 public | ~1.5 per 11-min match | Slow fights, lots of trades | Baseline |
| DMZ | Varies | AI kills aren't worth the same as player kills | Good change of pace |
The bot lobby and public numbers are our own estimates for an average player. The Shipment figure comes from Reddit reports, not testing, so treat it as a best case. Infinity Ward said in its October 25 notes that it's reviewing Multiplayer XP earn rates. The October 29 update then raised XP across several modes without giving numbers. Expect rates to keep changing.

How Apex Attachments change the order you level in
Verdict: the first gun in each class is the slow one. The rest go faster.
MW4 unlocks each compatible attachment once for every gun that can use it. When a gun reaches a level that would give you an attachment you already have, you get a Bonus Level Up instead. Your fifth SMG skips levels your first one didn't.
Apex Attachments don't work that way. Each one belongs to a single weapon and only unlocks when that gun reaches its own max level. There are 28 at launch, covering every primary and pistol. Launchers and the knife don't get one. A few examples:
- M4 Hurricane: a 5.7x28mm conversion at weapon level 72. The M4 itself unlocks at player level 14, so check that your rank is high enough first.
- Han 86 X20 Skybreaker: an airburst launcher. It blocks the optic, stock and barrel slots.
- GS Magna (.50 GS): the shortest track at 37 levels, but the pistol needs player level 41.
- ISO Trace (ISO Nightshade): RFID rounds that tag the targets you hit.
The plan that follows from this: max one gun per class, starting with what you actually play. After the October 28 patch fixed arm and hand damage on SMGs, the PPSh-41 and Wz.55 Striga are good first SMGs.
Weapon Prestige resets the gun to level 1 and relocks its attachments, but your Apex and blueprint attachments stay. Don't prestige your first gun in a class until the others have used its shared attachments.
How long does it take to max a gun in MW4?
Verdict: about 5–9 hours per gun in public matches, about 2–5 with a token, about 1–2 in bot lobbies.
The assumptions behind the table:
- An average player earns about 1.5 weapon levels per 11-minute public match.
- A bot lobby earns about 6 levels per 10-minute match.
- Double Weapon XP cuts each figure roughly in half.
- Bonus Level Ups on later guns are not included.
| Gun | Max level | Public matches | Public + 2XP | Bot lobbies |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| .50 GS | 37 | 25 (~4.6 hrs) | 13 (~2.4 hrs) | 7 (~1.2 hrs) |
| Warlord | 60 | 40 (~7.3 hrs) | 20 (~3.7 hrs) | 10 (~1.7 hrs) |
| Type 73 | 65 | 44 (~8 hrs) | 22 (~4 hrs) | 11 (~1.8 hrs) |
| M4 / Han 86 | 72 | 48 (~8.8 hrs) | 24 (~4.4 hrs) | 12 (~2 hrs) |
| KG-7 Vulcan | 75 | 50 (~9.2 hrs) | 25 (~4.6 hrs) | 13 (~2.2 hrs) |
Sources don't agree, so here are the other figures. Some guides published before launch estimated 2–4 hours per gun with focused play. YouTube titles promise "any gun in 2 hours", which only happens if everything goes right. One outside estimate puts the whole launch roster at 40–70 hours. Good players and later guns in a class will beat the table. Players who die a lot won't.
If you multiply those hours across five or six guns before Season 1 and the total looks bad, our weapon leveling boost for MW4from $12.00 covers any single gun to Max Level. It can also go further, through Weapon Prestige and up to Prestige Master.
Is buying MW4 weapon leveling safe? The honest answer on bans
Verdict: the risk is lower with some methods, but it is never zero.
Paid boosting is against Activision's rules, and any penalty falls on the account owner. Anyone promising a "ban-proof" service is advertising, not giving you facts. What changes the risk:
- Cheats and unlock tools: highest risk. RICOCHET is built to catch exactly this. We never use them.
- Real gameplay: a verified booster playing normal matches looks like a normal player.
- Pacing: a whole arsenal maxed overnight looks suspicious. Steady progress doesn't.
- Account access: bot lobbiesfrom $3.99 are matches you play yourself on your own account. You only give your Activision ID, not your password.

Common mistakes that slow your weapon XP
- Using the wrong token. Double XP raises your rank. Double Weapon XP levels your guns. Mix them up and the token is wasted.
- Leveling guns you'll never use. Start with the guns you like. Completionism can wait.
- Building around a gun that was just nerfed. The October 28 patch cut the Oden's torso and neck damage. Check patch notes before you commit.
- Ignoring camos while you level. Military and Special camo challenges progress in the same matches, so pick loadouts that work toward both.
- Prestiging too early. You relock attachments your other guns haven't used yet.
- Leaving lost matches. You throw away the end-of-match XP.
DIY, bot lobbies, or a booster?
- Free grind: best if you enjoy the gunplay and have 5–9 hours per gun.
- Bot lobbies: best if you want to play it yourself but faster, at roughly 1–2 hours per gun.
- Weapon leveling service: best if you only care about the finished gun with its Apex Attachment.
Done the free way, each gun on this list costs about 5–9 hours of public matches, and Season 1's new guns are coming soon. If you'd rather spend that time playing with your finished builds, our MW4 weapon leveling servicefrom $12.00 handles the grind for you, played by hand by a verified booster.
