MW4 XP Per Match by Game Mode: The Complete 2026 Guide
There's no official MW4 XP-per-match table yet. This guide lists the numbers that are confirmed, works out kill XP for each mode, and gives honest hour and match counts for reaching Level 55 and Prestige.

There is no official MW4 XP per match by game mode table. Infinity Ward has published one firm number: since the October 25 update, a kill in Search and Destroy and Collateral pays 300 XP, up from 100. The XP for every other mode depends on match length, how many kills you get, objective scoring and bonuses. A follow-up patch on October 29 raised XP earn rates "across several Multiplayer modes" but didn't list the new values or name the modes. Any exact per-mode figure you see quoted is community testing, not official data.
What we can do is lay out what's confirmed, do the kill-XP math for each mode, and give honest time costs for reaching Level 55 and Prestige. If you'd rather not spend that time, our MW4 account leveling and rank boostfrom $12.00 handles the Soldier Rank climb, and MW4 weapon levelingfrom $12.00 covers the separate gun grind. Everything below works whether you grind it yourself or not.
MW4 XP Per Match by Game Mode: What's Actually Confirmed
In short, very little is officially confirmed. Here's what the official sources do say:
- Kill XP in Search and Destroy and Collateral: 300 per kill since October 25. Before that it was 100, the same base value as the other modes.
- Respawn modes (TDM, Domination, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed): untouched by the October 25 patch. The October 29 patch raised earn rates in "several" modes without giving numbers.
- Weapon XP: the S&D buff only mentions player XP. Don't assume your guns level three times faster there.
- DMZ: DMZ XP counts toward your 1–55 Player Level. Multiplayer XP does not count toward the separate 70-level DMZ track.
- Warzone: Warzone XP starts counting toward 1–55 with Season 1 on November 6.
Until Infinity Ward publishes a full earn-rate table, treat any "X XP per Hardpoint match" figure as one player's result, not a rule.
Kill XP Per Match: The Math by Mode
Kills are the only part of the formula with published values, so they're the floor. Objective points, match completion, win bonuses and challenges come on top.
The kill counts below are example assumptions for an average player. They aren't measured averages. Respawn-mode values use the 100 XP launch figure, which may have gone up after October 29.
| Mode | Format / length | XP per kill | Example kills | Kill XP floor |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Team Deathmatch | 6v6, 10-min clock (reported) | 100* | 20 | ~2,000 |
| Hardpoint | 5-min clock, 250 pts | 100* + objective | 15 | ~1,500 + hill time |
| Domination | No timer, first to 200 | 100* + captures | 18 | ~1,800 + flags |
| Kill Confirmed | Respawn, tags score | 100* + tags | 18 | ~1,800 + tags |
| Search and Destroy | First to 6 rounds, 2-min rounds | 300 | 8–12 | 2,400–3,600 |
| Collateral | S&D rules + Buy Phase | 300 | 8–12 | 2,400–3,600 |
| DMZ | Deployment-based | Ops, AI kills, loot, exfil | — | Varies by run |
\Launch value. It may be higher after the October 29 change.*
This table shows why S&D suddenly looks good per match. Per match, a strong S&D player now out-earns an average TDM player on kills alone. But an S&D match runs anywhere from 6 rounds (a 6-0 sweep) to 11 rounds (6-5), and you sit out every round after you die. That leads to the next section.
XP Per Minute Beats XP Per Match
XP per match is the wrong number to optimise. Hardpoint's 5-minute clock means you can play roughly two Hardpoint matches in the time one full TDM match takes. You also earn objective XP the whole time instead of only on kills.
The real question isn't "which mode pays most per match?" It's "which mode pays most per hour you're actually in a game?" Count lobby and queue time too.
The practical ranking from current community testing:
- Hardpoint, Domination, Kill Confirmed: constant fighting plus objective XP. These are the most reliable picks for most players.
- Shipment (live since October 27) and party modes like Infected or Possession: tiny maps or chaotic rules mean lots of kills. Watch the playlist.
- S&D and Collateral: a real option now, but only if you survive rounds. A player who dies early spends most of the match spectating, and spectating pays nothing.
- TDM: kills are the only currency. It's slower than it feels.
Pick the respawn objective mode you actually win fights in. Being comfortable in a mode matters more than its reputation. Map choice matters too. Our best MW4 Season 1 maps for XP breakdown covers which maps keep you fighting.
The Bonuses That Outweigh Your Mode Choice
The mode decides your base XP, but bonuses are where the big jumps come from. Over a full climb, the gap between Hardpoint and Domination is smaller than the gap between doing your Daily Challenges and skipping them.
- Daily Challenges: three per day, one free reroll, and Activision promises a "hefty XP bonus" for clearing all three. One third-party guide reports 10,000 XP; we haven't seen that figure confirmed officially.
- Double XP tokens: the timer now runs only during matches, so you don't lose time sitting in menus.
- Classic Prestige: a 20% XP boost for that Prestige, in exchange for resetting your level unlocks. Community guides report it doesn't stack: two Classic Prestiges is still 20%, not 40%.
- Camo and Calling Card challenges: both pay XP on top of the cosmetic.
- BlackCell: confirmed to include an XP boost when Season 1 arrives.
How Long Does It Take to Reach Level 55 and Prestige?
Roughly 12–20 hours per climb to Level 55 for an average player. That's the consensus estimate across guides, including ours. It is not an official Activision figure.
Our assumptions: you play objective respawn modes, stay to the scoreboard every match, clear Daily Challenges when you can, and play without Double XP running. With matches plus lobby time averaging 10–12 minutes, that works out like this:
| Goal | Hours (no 2XP) | Approx. matches |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 → 55 (one climb) | 12–20 | ~60–120 |
| Same climb, 2XP always on | ~7–12 (estimate) | ~35–70 |
| All 10 Prestiges | ~120–200 | ~600–1,200 |
| Prestige Master 1,000 | Well beyond that | — |
The 2XP row is our rough estimate. Double XP boosts match XP, but challenge payouts don't double, so you won't get a clean 50% cut.
Ten Prestiges is a part-time job's worth of hours. Weapons are a separate grind. The M4 and HAN 86 cap at 72 levels, the KG-7 Vulcan at 75, and Season 1's Cronen Osprey has 70.
If you'd rather skip the climb, our MW4 account leveling and rank boostfrom $12.00 covers it. It's priced per level and played by hand in normal matches, never with cheats. Weapons go through MW4 weapon levelingfrom $12.00. Any boosting breaks Activision's rules and carries some account risk; we keep it low, but nobody can honestly promise zero.
Common Mistakes That Cost You XP
Most slow climbs come from habits, not mode choice. The most common XP leak is leaving matches early.
- Quitting before the scoreboard. You give up the match-completion bonus, which community guides consistently report as one of the biggest single payouts of the match.
- Sitting at 55. XP stops counting toward the Prestige track until you choose a path. If you don't care about loadouts, Regular Prestige costs you nothing.
- Assuming the S&D buff helps your guns. It's confirmed for player XP only.
- Trusting viral XP screenshots. The October 29 values were never published, and more tuning is expected around Season 1.
- Spreading kills across five weapons. Your Player XP is fine, but every gun levels slowly.
Done the efficient way, MW4 still takes 12–20 hours of objective matches per Prestige, and more than a hundred hours to clear all ten. If you'd rather spend that time playing on your own terms, our MW4 account leveling and rank boostfrom $12.00 gets your Soldier Rank where you want it.
