MW4 Weapon Prestige Guide: How to Unlock All 4 Pyroclast Camos

How MW4 Weapon Prestige works: the four Pyroclast camos, what the one reset relocks (shared attachments included), the fastest way to Master Level 250, and the mistakes that waste hours.

MW4 Weapon Prestige Guide: How to Unlock All 4 Pyroclast Camos

Weapon Prestige in Modern Warfare 4 opens once a gun reaches its Max Level. Entering it gives you Pyroclast right away. Three more Pyroclast camos follow: one for leveling the gun to Max again, and two more at Weapon Prestige Master Level 150 and 250. The catch is that entering Weapon Prestige 1 relocks every attachment on that gun, shared ones included. That means a 72-level HAN 86 has to be leveled twice before you even reach Master.

The first climb to Max Level is where most players stall, and nothing in Weapon Prestige starts until it's done. You can grind it yourself in Multiplayer and DMZ, or let our MW4 weapon leveling boostfrom $12.00 max the gun so you start Weapon Prestige ready to reset.

What Weapon Prestige actually is

Verdict: it's optional, it's per gun, and it's cosmetic first.

  • It's separate from player Prestige. The Classic and Regular tracks you pick after Soldier Rank 55 are a different system. Weapon Prestige belongs to one weapon at a time.
  • It's live at launch. Activision confirmed every weapon class has an optional Weapon Prestige track. It's not a Season 1 add-on and you don't need a Battle Pass.
  • The camos are the same on every gun, but each gun earns its own. All 33 weapons share the same four Pyroclast camos. Unlocking Cascade on the HAN 86 unlocks nothing on any other gun.
  • It doesn't count toward Mastery. Pyroclast is its own reward track. It does nothing for Divergence, Orion Reforged, Helio or any other mode Mastery camo.

The four Pyroclast camos at a glance

Verdict: one reset buys you four camos, and the last two take by far the longest.

A naming note: early previews called the second camo Pyroclast Verge. Activision's final progression blog calls it Pyroclast Terminus. If an older guide says Verge, it means the same camo.

There's no challenge list. All four come purely from Weapon XP on that one gun. You don't need headshots or longshots, just time spent using it.

What resets, and what you keep

Verdict: the reset costs more than most pre-launch guides said.

Before launch, plenty of sites said you'd keep shared attachments on a prestiged gun. Infinity Ward's October 21 launch patch notes say otherwise.

Prestiging a weapon locks every attachment on that weapon, shared attachments included, and switches it to a classic one-unlock-per-level system. Your other, non-prestiged guns keep their shared attachments.

Here's the full breakdown:

  • Resets: the weapon level goes back to 1, and every normal and shared attachment on that gun relocks.
  • Survives: Apex Attachments and Weapon Blueprint Attachments.
  • Cosmetics stay: camos, blueprints, reticles, decals and stickers are not touched.
  • Other guns are safe: prestiging the HAN 86 doesn't relock anything on your SMGs.

The less obvious cost is speed. On a normal climb, MW4 skips levels for attachments you've already unlocked on other guns. That's the whole shared-attachment system. After the reset, those skips are gone and you earn one attachment per level. Expect the second climb to feel noticeably slower than the first.

How to unlock all four Pyroclast camos, step by step

Verdict: the method is simple. The time it takes is the hard part.

  1. Pick your gun carefully. Max levels at launch run roughly 53–75 for primaries and 37–44 for pistols, according to third-party trackers of the launch data. The HAN 86 is listed at 72 and the SANG 9mm at 38. A pistol is the cheapest route to your first Pyroclast.
  2. Level it to Max. Weapon XP comes from Multiplayer and DMZ. This first climb also gets you the gun's Apex Attachment, which stays through the reset.
  3. Save your build before you reset. Note the loadout you actually use. Apex and Blueprint attachments come back with you. Everything else has to be earned again.
  4. Enter Weapon Prestige 1. You get Pyroclast and the Weapon Prestige icon immediately.
  5. Level to Max again for Pyroclast Terminus. The gun then moves into Weapon Prestige Master automatically, with no second reset. The attachments you re-earned stay unlocked.
  6. Keep going to Master Level 150 and 250 for Scatter and Cascade.

One thing isn't settled yet: sources describe Master Level 150 and 250 differently. Some read them as a continuation of the weapon's level count. Others describe 250 separate Master levels. Until in-game numbers are confirmed across several guns, treat any 'hours to Cascade' figure you see online as a guess. That includes ours, which is why we're not giving one.

Tips that actually speed it up

  • Stack Double Weapon XP. Save your 2XP for the long Master stretch, not the first climb, where shared-attachment skips already help. Our guide on how MW4 2XP tokens now pause explains how to get the full timer.
  • Cut out downtime. Public matches end, lobbies reload, and you spend minutes in menus. MW4 bot lobbiesfrom $4.99 run endless matches against five bots, so nearly all your playtime turns into Weapon XP.
  • Grind camos on the same gun. Weapon XP from your Military and Mastery camo challenges also counts toward Weapon Prestige. Picking one gun for both grinds saves you from doing the work twice.
  • Pistols first, ARs later. If you want a Pyroclast gun fast, a pistol with a max level in the high 30s gets there much sooner than a 75-level primary.

Common mistakes

  • Prestiging your main gun mid-session. If the HAN 86 is your DMZ main, resetting it before a serious infil means running it with no attachments.
  • Expecting shared attachments to stay. They don't on the prestiged gun. Plan for that.
  • Mixing it up with player Prestige. Picking Classic or Regular at Rank 55 has nothing to do with Pyroclast. Our MW4 Prestige rewards list covers the player-side rewards.
  • Thinking it's one grind per account. It's per gun. Four camos across 33 weapons makes 132 unlocks if you go for everything. Good luck.

Is boosting Weapon Prestige safe?

Verdict: low risk when it's done right, but never zero.

AstroBoost boosters play the levels by hand. We never use cheats, macros or unlock tools, so your progress looks like normal play. Still, any service that involves someone else playing on your account goes against Activision's terms. Anyone who calls it 100% ban-proof isn't being straight with you. If you want the full picture, we covered it in are MW4 bot lobbies legit, and can they get you banned.

Quick answers

How many times can you Weapon Prestige a gun in MW4? Once. After Weapon Prestige 1 the gun moves into Weapon Prestige Master and never resets again.

Do Pyroclast camos count toward Divergence or the Mastery camos? No. They're a separate reward track and don't appear on the Mastery checklist.

Will I lose my camos or blueprints if I prestige a weapon? No. Cosmetics are kept. Only the weapon level and most of its attachments reset.

Getting one gun to Pyroclast Cascade means maxing it twice and then grinding all of Weapon Prestige Master, and you repeat that for every gun you care about. If you'd rather keep your evenings for actual matches, our MW4 Pyroclast camo servicefrom $12.00 handles the whole Weapon Prestige chain through manual play.

Vetted boosters handle the grind covered in this guide, with live support and scheduled delivery.
