Is the MW4 Camo Challenges List Per Weapon Out Yet?

Not yet. As of October 8, 2026, Activision hasn't published MW4's per-weapon camo challenges. Here's what is confirmed, what's only reported, and how to plan your grind before the October 23 launch.

Is the MW4 Camo Challenges List Per Weapon Out Yet?

No. As of October 8, 2026, nobody has an official MW4 camo challenges list per weapon, because Activision and Infinity Ward haven't released one. Infinity Ward is expected to reveal them at or shortly after the October 23, 2026 launch. If you see a site listing exact kill counts or headshot targets for a specific gun right now, that list is a guess.

What we do have is the structure: a shared Camo Track, nine mode Mastery Camos, a Prestige set and a confirmed weapon count. That's enough to plan around. If you want to clear the challenges quickly once they go live, you can play public matches, grind DMZ, or farm in private MW4 bot lobbiesfrom $4.99. Each route has trade-offs, and we go through them below.

MW4 camo challenges list per weapon: what's confirmed right now

Short version: the framework is official, but the numbers haven't been published.

Here's the official line from Call of Duty's NEXT recap: the Weapon Camo journey spans Multiplayer, DMZ, and Call of Duty: Warzone, and you progress each weapon's Camo Track across all three experiences to unlock its Mastery Camo Challenges, with three Mastery Camos to earn in each mode for nine total.

That applies to a large arsenal. MW4 launches with 33 weapons, 28 Apex Attachments and 500+ standard attachments. So you're looking at 33 separate Camo Tracks.

Everything below the framework is still unpublished: the number of base camos per weapon, the individual challenges (headshots, longshots, kill counts) and the thresholds that gate each Mastery tier. The open beta (August 28–September 1, 2026) did not expose a Camo Track UI, and no base-camo tier names, challenge counts, or per-weapon thresholds appeared in-game.

Which camos sit at the end of each weapon's track?

At least the names are settled.

  • Multiplayer: Mercurial Drift, Polyatomic Reforged, Orion Reforged
  • Warzone: Parallax, Damascus Reforged, Empyros
  • DMZ: Chiral, Ripple Tide, Helio
  • Prestige: Pyroclast, Pyroclast Verge, Pyroclast Scatter, Pyroclast Cascade

One caveat on the Prestige set: early coverage listed only three Pyroclast camos, but more recent reporting says MW4 has nine mode-specific Mastery Camos, with three for each main mode, plus four separate Prestige Mastery Camos. Prestige camos unlock account-wide through Prestige progression, so they won't show up in any per-weapon challenge list.

How mastery unlocks are expected to chain

This part comes from reporting and from how earlier games worked. It isn't official yet.

GamesRadar describes the Multiplayer chain this way: unlock every single base camo for a weapon, then you'll get the challenge to unlock Mercurial Drift. After that, once you've unlocked Mercurial Drift for every weapon in a class, you'll unlock the Polyatomic Reforged challenges for those weapons, and Orion Reforged is unlocked after earning Polyatomic Reforged on every single base game weapon.

That's the familiar CoD ladder: finish one gun, then a whole class, then the whole arsenal. It's believable, but treat it as "likely" until the in-game challenge screen confirms it.

Other outlets advise caution. One breakdown warns you should not assume that older Modern Warfare camo requirements will return unchanged. Plan around the ladder shape, but don't build a spreadsheet of kill counts copied from MWIII.

What the shared track means for your per-weapon grind

This is the one design change you can plan around right now.

Since the track is shared, every kill in every mode counts toward the same bar. The October DMZ Deep Dive confirmed that combat is another reliable way to earn DMZ XP, advance weapon progression, and complete Camo challenges, and eliminating rival Operators awards more XP than taking down AI combatants. We compare the three modes in more detail in our guide to the fastest mode for MW4 mastery camos.

The practical rule: finish one weapon's base track before you start the next. Five half-finished bars won't unlock anything.

How to find the real list on launch day

It should take about two minutes once you're in the game.

  1. Launch MW4 on October 23 and open your loadout's Gunsmith.
  2. Select a weapon and open its camo tab. Each locked camo should show its challenge text.
  3. Check one weapon from each class (AR, SMG, sniper, launcher). In past CoDs, challenge types varied by class.
  4. Screenshot the first locked Mastery Camo to see exactly what gates it.

We'll update this page once the official list is live and confirmed.

Related questions

Does beta progress count toward MW4 camos? No. All beta and prior-game camo progress was reset for the full launch, so you start the mastery grind from zero on October 23, 2026.

Are challenges the same for every weapon? That isn't confirmed yet. In previous games, snipers, launchers and melee had their own variants, so expect at least some per-class differences.

Do I need to grind all three modes for one weapon? Not for the base track, since it's shared. Each mode's Mastery Camos sit on their own path after that, though. Once you reach the Mastery stage, the progression splits into separate Multiplayer, DMZ, and Warzone paths.

How many matches will one weapon take? We can't give a real number until the thresholds are published. Our bot lobby camo match estimate explains how to work it out once they are.

Across 33 weapons and three Mastery paths, the camo grind will very likely run to dozens of hours per mode, even after the list is public. If you'd rather not do all of that yourself, our MW4 Camo Boostfrom $5.99 lets you choose the weapons and camo progress you want finished, and our verified boosters complete it through normal gameplay.
