What Unlocks MW4 Warzone Parallax, Damascus Reforged & Empyros?
Parallax, Damascus Reforged and Empyros are MW4's three Warzone mastery camos, in that order. Here's what's confirmed about unlocking them, what has only been reported, and when the Warzone grind actually starts.

The MW4 Warzone mastery camos Parallax, Damascus Reforged and Empyros come in that order. You reach them by finishing a weapon's shared Camo Track and then completing Warzone-only mastery challenges. Activision hasn't published the exact challenge requirements, though, and the Warzone grind isn't expected to open until Season 1, which still has no date. So right now nobody can grind them, and anyone quoting kill counts is guessing.
That's the short version. Below is what's actually confirmed, what one major outlet has reported but Activision hasn't put in writing, and what you can do on October 23 so you aren't starting from zero when Warzone switches over to MW4. You can already find unlock pages for each camo on our store, like the Parallax camo unlockfrom $103.00. This guide is about the facts, though, not a sales pitch.
MW4 Warzone mastery camos: Parallax, Damascus Reforged, Empyros at a glance
Verdict: the names, the order and the Warzone-only status are solid. The requirements aren't.
These three camos were shown at Call of Duty: NEXT on August 21, 2026, along with the Multiplayer and DMZ sets and the Prestige camos. Each mode gets three mastery camos, so there are nine mode camos in total. Warzone's three are separate from the other two paths. Finishing Orion Reforged in Multiplayer gives you nothing toward Empyros.
| Tier | Camo | Look (from reveal footage) | Reported unlock gate | Official status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Parallax | Iridescent oil-slick finish on bare metal, no pattern | Every other camo on that weapon | Requirements unpublished |
| 2 | Damascus Reforged | Animated remix of MW2019's Damascus in blue, cyan and pink | Parallax on every weapon in a category | Requirements unpublished |
| 3 | Empyros | Fractured emerald-and-sapphire glass in a digital grid | Damascus Reforged on every Warzone weapon | Requirements unpublished |
The "reported unlock gate" column comes from GamesRadar's mastery camo guide. It's the classic structure: per weapon, then per category, then the whole armory. It matches how recent Call of Duty mastery tracks have worked. Several other trackers still list the requirements as unpublished, though, and we haven't found a first-party page that confirms the gates. Treat that column as likely, not locked in.
Pro tip: Damascus Reforged is a Warzone reward in MW4, not a Multiplayer one. If you were planning to earn it in 6v6 for nostalgia, you'll be disappointed. Fans argued about this right after the reveal, and nothing official has changed it.
How the unlock path works (confirmed part)
Verdict: one shared track, then three separate mastery paths.
This much Activision has confirmed:
- Every weapon has one Camo Track that progresses across Multiplayer, DMZ and Warzone.
- Progressing that track unlocks the weapon's Mastery Camo Challenges.
- At mastery, progress splits by mode. Warzone challenges lead to Parallax, then Damascus Reforged, then Empyros.
In practice, a gun you never take into Warzone will never earn Empyros. The base camos can still come from any mode, though, which changes how you should plan your launch week.

When can you actually grind them?
Verdict: probably not on October 23.
MW4 launches October 23, 2026, with Campaign, Multiplayer and DMZ. Activision's wording is that Warzone takes on MW4 content and seasonal progression beginning in Season 1, which it says arrives "shortly after" launch. Most coverage reads that to mean the Warzone mastery path opens at Season 1, not on launch day. At least one store blog says Warzone integration goes live on October 23. That conflicts with the official Season 1 wording, so we wouldn't plan around it.
Expected Season 1 windows across the community range from early November to mid-December. None of them are confirmed.
Pro tip: If you're still playing Warzone on PS4 or Xbox One, Season 1 is also when Warzone stops being playable on those consoles. Sort out your hardware before chasing Empyros.
The best prep method: front-load the shared Camo Track
Since the base track is shared, the smartest move is to get through it in Multiplayer or DMZ at launch. Then each weapon is already sitting at the Warzone mastery stage when Season 1 lands. With 33 weapons at launch (24 primaries, 8 secondaries, 1 melee), and if the reported "every weapon" gate for Empyros holds, a head start is the difference between weeks and months.
Pros
- Fast 6v6 matches usually build base camo progress quicker than battle royale downtime
- You lose nothing: shared-track progress counts no matter which mode earned it
- You'll be ready to start Parallax challenges the day Season 1 goes live
Cons
- Doesn't touch the Warzone-specific mastery challenges themselves
- We don't know the final challenge list, so you could over-prepare for the wrong conditions
- It's still a grind across 33 guns. No way around that.
One honest option for the base-track part is Multiplayer self-play against bots. Our guide to how many bot lobby matches the camo grind takes breaks that down. Bots help with the shared track only. They don't count toward Warzone mastery.
Related questions
Are there Gold or Diamond camos in MW4 Warzone? Not in the current list. The Warzone set is Parallax, Damascus Reforged and Empyros, with no traditional Gold or Diamond tier announced. That could change if Activision publishes the full base camo list, but nothing points to it so far.
Do my old Warzone camos carry forward? Yes, for older weapons. Activision's September 24 update says Operators, weapons, Blueprints and camos from MWII, MWIII, BO6 and BO7 stay usable in Warzone from MW4 Season 1. The new mastery camos, however, are earned on MW4 weapons.
Is Empyros the hardest Warzone camo? It's the top tier, so yes. If the reported structure is right, it's effectively a "finish the whole Warzone arsenal" reward.
Do Multiplayer kills count toward Parallax? They count toward the shared Camo Track that unlocks the mastery challenges. The Parallax challenges themselves are Warzone-specific.
The bottom line
The Warzone mastery set is confirmed, the order is confirmed, and the requirements aren't published yet. Grinding every MW4 weapon through the base track and then three Warzone mastery tiers will take serious hours once Season 1 opens. If you'd rather not, our Empyros camo unlockfrom $183.00 is one way to have it handled by a verified booster through normal gameplay.
