MW4 Hidden Calling Cards and Emblems: How to Unlock Every One

How MW4's hard-to-find calling cards and emblems unlock: the 11 Elite sets, animated Mastery cards, Prestige emblems and the legacy rewards you can't grind anymore. Also covers realistic hours and match counts.

MW4 Hidden Calling Cards and Emblems: How to Unlock Every One

To unlock hidden calling cards and emblems in MW4, you work through four sources. The first is the 11 Elite Calling Card sets under Career > Challenges > Calling Cards. The second is the animated Mastery cards for finishing whole sets and categories. The third is the emblems on the Prestige and Prestige Master tracks. The fourth is a small group of legacy and promo rewards that you can't grind at all. As of launch, nobody has confirmed a Black Ops-style list of Dark Ops challenges in Modern Warfare 4. The rare items are visible in the menu. What's missing is detail: Activision's launch progression post didn't give the exact requirements for most Elite challenges, so you have to read them in-game.

Most of these rewards take hundreds of matches, not a few evenings. If you'd rather skip the level-gated part, our MW4 Account Leveling & Rank Boostfrom $12.00 handles the Soldier Rank climb. For kill-based challenges you want to play yourself, MW4 Bot Lobbiesfrom $3.99 are another option. You don't need either one. Everything below can be earned solo.

MW4 hidden calling cards and emblems: how to unlock each type

Verdict: the rarest cosmetics in MW4 aren't secret. They're listed in the menu, and their requirements are brutal.

TypeWhere to find itHow it unlocksStill earnable?
Regular Mastery Sets (16)Career > Challenges > Calling CardsTiered and one-off challenges per setYes
Elite sets (11)Same menu, Elite categoriesHard, specific feats (nuke, campaign difficulties, DMZ bosses)Yes
Animated Mastery cardsAwarded automaticallyFinish a set, then a category, then every categoryYes
Prestige emblemsCareer > Progression > PrestigeSoldier Rank milestonesYes
Legacy and promo itemsGranted to your accountPast betas, account linking, retail codesMostly no

The 16 regular sets are:

  • Multiplayer: Objective, War, Capture Zone, Bomb, Cash, Dog Tag
  • DMZ: Combat, Mission, Exfil, Loot, Exploration, FOB
  • Shared Mode: Combat, Loadout, Collection, Mobility Course

Each set contains several cards, not just one. The Multiplayer Objective set, for example, has six challenges: four tiered and two non-tiered. Finishing every challenge in a set gives you an animated Mastery card, finishing every set in a category gives you another, and finishing every category gives you the rarest one.

The Elite calling cards: what's actually confirmed

Verdict: Activision has published the names of all 11 Elite sets. It hasn't published most of their requirements.

  • Elite Multiplayer: Ground Zero, Winner, Melee, Executions
  • Elite DMZ: Final Showdown, High-Value Escort, King Slayer, Exterminator
  • Elite Campaign: Veteran Completer, Realism Completer, YOLO Completer

Here's what we could verify:

  • Ground Zero is the nuke card. Launch-era guides tie it to calling in a Tactical Nuke in Free-for-All: 30 kills in a row without dying, then activating the nuke yourself. A nuke in a 6v6 mode ends the match but reportedly doesn't award the card. Our guide on how to get a nuke in MW4 covers the streak rules in depth.
  • The Campaign Elite cards are sequential. Finishing the campaign once unlocks Realism. Finishing Realism unlocks YOLO. Finishing YOLO awards YOLO Completer. That means at least three full playthroughs.
  • King Slayer got a launch-day fix. Before it, only the player who landed the final blow on a DMZ Commander got credit. Now the whole squad does.
  • Winner, Melee, Executions, Final Showdown, High-Value Escort and Exterminator had no thresholds in the official preview.

If a website gives you exact kill or win counts for those six sets, check them against the in-game text before you queue. A set's name isn't its requirement.

Prestige and Prestige Master emblems

Verdict: every Prestige emblem is gated by Soldier Rank, so XP is the only way to speed it up.

The Prestige track gives out a reward every 10 levels inside each Prestige. For Prestige 1, the emblem arrives at Level 20, after the loading screen at Level 10. Classic and Regular Prestige share most of these rewards. Classic players also get a Prime version of the Level 50 blueprint or Operator skin.

Prestige Master goes further:

  • Level 65: the Prestige Master 56 emblem
  • Level 100, then every 100 levels: sets of legacy Prestige icons from earlier Call of Duty games
  • Level 1,000 (Prestige Legend): still listed as classified

The Prestige Master 56 emblem requires all 10 Prestiges plus another 10 levels, which makes it one of the longest XP grinds in the game. For XP rates by mode, see our XP per match by game mode guide.

Rewards you can't grind anymore

Verdict: if a reward was tied to a past event, no amount of play can bring it back.

  • MWII DMZ Beta veteran rewards go to accounts that played that beta, played it for 50+ hours, or unlocked the Serpentine camo there. You need the same Activision account. Playing MW4 DMZ now doesn't count.
  • MW4 Beta Combat Record rewards were an Ira Prima PPSh-41 blueprint, an emblem and a charm. Activision hasn't confirmed they can still be earned. Assume the window has closed.
  • The Discord-linked calling card came from a beta-era account-linking promo.
  • Retail promo items such as the Clawed Out calling card and Claw Marked emblem come from codes. Exactly which promo grants which item hasn't been verified.
  • Store and Battle Pass cards come from purchases or tiers, not challenges.
Be skeptical of anyone selling a secret MW4 calling card. Plenty of so-called secret rewards are promo cosmetics or free account-linking items. Real Elite cards appear as normal challenge completions in your Career menu.

Promo and legacy items are the only cosmetics here that can't be earned through gameplay.

How long does it take

Verdict: one tiered card takes an evening. A full set can take a whole season.

These are our estimates, not official figures. They assume a typical player who wins 50% of matches, 6v6 matches that take about 10 minutes including the lobby, and no Double XP.

TargetMatchesHours
Victorious! tier 1 (20 wins)~40~7
Victorious! final tier (300 wins)~600~100
Prestige 1 emblem (Level 55, then 20 more levels)~200–250~35–45
Ground Zero (FFA nuke)10–40 for strong playersUnpredictable
YOLO Completer3 campaign runsDepends on campaign length and your deaths

The 300-win tier is the big one. Activision confirmed the 20/60/150/300 win ladder, so the Objective Mastery set alone takes about 100 hours. Ground Zero depends far more on skill than on time. Plenty of average players will never get a 30-kill FFA streak. That's not a criticism of them; it's how FFA works.

There are two shortcuts. Bot lobbiesfrom $3.99 work best for kill, melee and execution-style progress. Be aware that nobody has confirmed whether win-based Elite challenges count against bots. For anything gated by Prestige, account levelingfrom $12.00 covers the rank climb itself. Double XP tokens, daily challenges and objective modes are the free alternatives.

Common mistakes

Verdict: most time gets wasted on tracking errors, not on hard challenges.

  • Not tracking. The Tracked & Near Complete tab holds up to nine challenges and shows which ones are closest to done.
  • Grinding through a known bug. The October 28 patch notes listed Calling Card challenges not tracking as a known issue. As of the October 30 update, it wasn't marked fixed. Check Infinity Ward's Trello board before you sink in hours.
  • Assuming old progress is gone. The same patch fixed some melee, Backstab and Takedown kills and loosened the Point Blank and Longshot ranges. Play one match and re-check before you start over.
  • Forgetting to equip. An unlocked card doesn't display itself. Set it under Career > Profile, or put up to three cards in your Showcase.
  • Hunting Warzone cards early. The Warzone category exists, but its challenge list arrives with Season 1 on November 6.

Read the challenge text, track it, and check the patch notes before every long session.

Quick answers

Does MW4 have Dark Ops challenges? Nothing has been confirmed as of launch. The hard cards are the listed Elite sets. BO7 Dark Ops cards don't carry over.

Do calling card challenges count toward mastery camos? No. Mastery Sets award calling cards and mastery camos are weapon rewards, even though both appear in the Challenges menu.

Can I still get the MW4 beta emblem? Probably not. Activision hasn't confirmed that beta rewards can be earned after the beta.

The Prestige emblems alone take dozens of hours, and the 300-win card takes about 100 more. If you'd rather spend that time on the Elite challenges you actually enjoy, our MW4 Account Leveling & Rank Boostfrom $12.00 can handle the rank climb while you focus on the rest.
