How to Use MW4 Bot Lobbies on PS5 and Xbox (Step by Step)

MW4 bot lobbies work on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S with cross-play on. Send your Activision ID, add the host, join the party and play on your own account. Here are the steps, settings and fixes for common join problems.

How to Use MW4 Bot Lobbies on PS5 and Xbox (Step by Step)

MW4 bot lobbies work on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and on console the setup is simpler than on PC. There's no TPM or Secure Boot check. You send your Activision ID, add the host, join their party, and play on your own account with cross-play turned on. No password, no account sharing, and nothing to install.

Here's the full process, the settings to check first, and what to do if the invite or connection doesn't work.

Before you order: console checklist

Verdict: four things to sort out before checkout, and cross-play is the one people miss.

Your Activision ID to handYesYes

Your Activision ID is the name with a # and a number after it. It's what we need to match you with a host. Send exactly that, not your PSN name or gamertag. If you're not sure which one is yours, ask in the order chat before your session.

Cross-play has to be on. The host isn't necessarily on your platform, and bot lobbies run with cross-play across PS5, Xbox, PC and Switch 2. If you turned cross-play off at some point, turn it back on before your session.

How to join an MW4 bot lobby on PS5 or Xbox

Verdict: the same five steps on both consoles.

  1. Order and send your Activision ID in the order chat on the MW4 Bot Lobbiesfrom $3.99 page. Pick your platform at checkout.
  2. Wait for the host's Activision ID. We reply in the chat. On Standard delivery that's within 0–3 hours, on Express 0–1 hour, and on Super Express 0–30 minutes.
  3. Add the host in MW4. Use the in-game friends or social menu and search by the full Activision ID, including the # number.
  4. Join the host's party when it's ready, then load in. Your time starts when you first load into the lobby, and a live countdown runs in the order chat.
  5. Play your match. One lobby is one full match of about 10 minutes, with 5 bots on the enemy team. Kills and wins count toward your stats like any normal match. On hourly packs you can rejoin as often as you like while time lasts.

Tip: set up your loadout before step 4. Pick the gun you're leveling, add any attachments, and if you're using Double XP, activate it before you load in. Our MW4 loadouts tool helps if you're not sure what to run.

Cross-play settings on PS5 and Xbox

Verdict: on PS5 it's one in-game toggle; Xbox also has a system setting that can override it.

These paths come from our MW4 crossplay settings guide, which was tested during the beta. Menus can shift with updates, so we confirm the exact setting in your order chat if anything looks different.

  • PS5 (in MW4): Settings → Account & Network → Crossplay → Enabled.
  • Xbox (in MW4): the same in-game path.
  • Xbox (system level): Guide button → Profile & system → Settings → Account → Privacy & online settings → Xbox privacy → View details & customize → Communication & multiplayer → set cross-network play to Allow.

If the in-game toggle on Xbox seems stuck, the system setting is usually why. For how this differs from PC and Switch 2, see PC vs console for bot lobbies and bot lobbies on Switch 2.

Troubleshooting on console

Verdict: most join problems come down to cross-play, the wrong ID, or your NAT type.

You can't find the host or the friend request doesn't show up. Double-check the full Activision ID, including the number after the #, character for character. Then confirm cross-play is on, plus the system-level setting on Xbox. Still nothing? Send a screenshot or describe what you see in the order chat.

You can't join the party or the invite fails. That's usually cross-play or your console's privacy settings blocking cross-network play. On Xbox, check the Communication & multiplayer setting above. If that's fine, check your NAT type (below).

"Connection Lost," bots go offline, or a player you don't expect joins. Leave the game and tell us in the order chat. We'll fix it and get you back in. Don't stay in a lobby that's gone wrong.

You keep getting disconnected or slow to connect. Check your NAT type. A strict NAT can block connections to other players.

  • PS5: Settings → Network → Connection Status → View Connection Status (or Test Internet Connection). PS5 shows NAT Type 1, 2 or 3. Type 1 is Open, Type 2 is Moderate and Type 3 is Strict.
  • Xbox: Settings → General → Network settings. Your NAT type appears under Current network status, and the Test NAT type option rechecks it.

If you're on Strict (Type 3), the usual first fix is enabling UPnP on your router, then restarting the router and console and testing again. Port forwarding is the next step if UPnP doesn't help. Your router maker's instructions are the best guide for that. A wired connection also helps if Wi-Fi is patchy.

You need to stop mid-session. Tell us in the order chat. Your remaining time is saved.

Rules in a standard lobby

In a standard lobby, one other customer may be on the enemy team farming the bots on your side. Leave them alone, which means no shooting them and no lethal or area killstreaks.

Is it safe on console?

Verdict: the same low-but-not-zero risk as every platform.

It's self-play on your own account and console. We never ask for your password, and nothing is installed. The risk is the same across platforms; console just skips PC's TPM and Secure Boot setup. We've completed 300+ orders with no account issues so far, but bot lobbies aren't an official Activision feature, and no one can promise 100% safety. More in bot lobbies and RICOCHET.

Quick answers

Do MW4 bot lobbies work on PS5? Yes. Send your Activision ID, add the host, join the party, and keep cross-play enabled in MW4's settings.

Do MW4 bot lobbies work on Xbox? Yes, on Xbox Series X|S. Make sure cross-play is on in MW4 and that cross-network play is allowed in your Xbox privacy settings.

Do I need to give you my PSN or Xbox password? No. We only need your Activision ID. Anyone asking for a password isn't running a self-play bot lobby.

Does progress from a console bot lobby carry over? Yes. Progress is tied to your Activision account, and kills, wins and XP count like any normal match.

Why can't I see the host's invite? Usually cross-play is off, the Xbox system setting is blocking cross-network play, or the Activision ID was entered wrong. Message us in the order chat and we'll sort it.

How much is a bot lobby on console? The same as every platform: $4.99 for one lobby, with cheaper packs. See how much MW4 bot lobbies cost.
