MW4 Beta Crossplay: How Do You Disable It?
Console players can switch MW4 beta crossplay off in Settings under Account & Network; PC has no toggle at all. Here's exactly where the option lives, what it costs you in queue times, and how it affects your Level 30 grind.

On console you disable MW4 beta crossplay in Settings → Account & Network → Crossplay (set it to Off); on PC there is no toggle — PC is crossplay-only by design. That's the short version, and it hasn't changed for any Call of Duty since 2019. The catch is timing: the Open Beta runs from August 28 at 10:00 AM PT to September 1 at 10:00 AM PT, so every minute you spend fighting matchmaking is a minute off your reward grind — which is exactly why some players hand the level track to a MW4 Beta Level 20 boostfrom $39.99 and just play the maps they actually like.
One honest caveat up front. Activision has published plenty about the beta's maps, modes and rewards, but not a dedicated breakdown of the crossplay menu itself. Multiple outlets tracking MW4 note the same thing: every recent Call of Duty lets PS5 and Xbox players disable crossplay in Account & Network settings while PC players cannot fully disable it, and the same is expected in MW4 with exact menus revealed closer to launch. So treat the path below as "the CoD standard, confirmed by community testing in the beta" rather than a line from an official support page.
MW4 beta crossplay: how to disable it, step by step
Verdict: two minutes on console, impossible on PC.
PlayStation 5
- Load the MW4 beta and open the pause/options menu from the main lobby.
- Go to Settings (gear icon) → Account & Network.
- Find Crossplay and set it to Disabled.
- Back out fully so the setting saves, then re-queue. If you were mid-lobby, leave and search again.
Xbox Series X/S
Same in-game path — but Xbox also gates cross-network play at the system level. On Xbox you can turn crossplay off through the Guide button → Profile and System → Settings → Account → Privacy & Online settings → Xbox Privacy → View Details & Customize → Communication & Multiplayer, then set cross-network play to blocked. If the in-game toggle looks stuck, this is usually why.
PC (Steam, Battle.net, Xbox on PC)
There is no option. The on/off control has historically been available only to PlayStation and Xbox users. The long-running workaround players pass around is to sign into the same Activision account on a console and flip the toggle there — one Steam user with both consoles reported that toggling it off disables it globally for the account, while others with it disabled on PS5 and Xbox still matched against every platform in ranked. Unverified and inconsistent. Don't plan your weekend around it.
Nintendo Switch 2
New territory. Switch 2 joined for Weekend Two, and the version is confirmed to support crossplay with every other platform, sharing the same matchmaking pool. Assume you're in with everyone.
| Platform | Can you disable crossplay? | Where | What it costs you |
|---|---|---|---|
| PS5 | Yes | Settings → Account & Network | Longer queues, PS-only pool |
| Xbox Series X/S | Yes | In-game + Xbox privacy settings | Longer queues, smaller pool |
| PC | No | — | Nothing to change |
| Switch 2 | Not confirmed | — | Full crossplay pool |
Should you actually turn it off?
Probably not during a four-day beta. The two real reasons people disable it are cheaters and input imbalance — console players often cite more cheating on PC, and controller players don't want to face mouse-and-keyboard accuracy. Both are fair. But Call of Duty already sorts partly by input: modern CoD matches on controller-versus-mouse lines rather than purely by platform, so a controller player on PC is often pooled with controller players on console. Switching crossplay off mostly shrinks your pool, not your lobby difficulty.
Smaller pool, longer searches, worse ping, tighter SBMM. In a beta that ends September 1, dead queue time is the most expensive thing you own.
If your goal is the reward track, keep crossplay on and optimise XP instead. Weekend Two lets you push to Level 30 and unlock all eight Beta Rewards, including the Dread Tiger Operator Skin for Reece and the Beta Forged blueprint for the Han 86 assault rifle, and once unlocked they stay tied to your Activision account and are available in the full game at launch. Our breakdown of how long Level 30 actually takes in the MW4 beta has the realistic hour count.
Is a beta boost safe, and will you get banned?
Straight answer: nobody can promise you a ban-proof service, and anyone who does is lying. What we can tell you is how the risk profile differs.
- MW4 Bot Lobbiesfrom $4.99 — you stay logged into your own account, no password handed over, no stranger touching your profile. Lowest-exposure option.
- Manual level boosting — a real player pushes your account through matches. Faster, but it involves account access, so use a service that's transparent about how it plays.
- Third-party XP tools, unlock-all software, modified clients — hard no. That's the category that actually gets accounts permanently closed.
We do not sell unlock tools, and we don't recommend them. Progression services work because someone puts hours into normal multiplayer, not because they break the game.

Does disabling crossplay stop you playing with friends on other platforms?
Yes. That's the whole trade. Crossplay is what lets a PS5 player queue with someone on Xbox Series X/S while PC and Switch 2 players join the same matches. Turn it off and your cross-platform party is gone until you turn it back on.
Is crossplay tied to cross-progression?
No — they're separate. Using the same Activision account lets beta progression continue between supported platforms through cross-progression, and disabling crossplay doesn't wipe or freeze that. Your level, weapon XP and unlocked rewards follow the account.
Will the toggle definitely be there at launch on October 23?
Every sign points to yes, but it isn't formally documented for MW4 yet. Coverage still describes it as a wait-and-see on how Infinity Ward implements the option and whether any platform can disable it. If crossplay control is a dealbreaker for you, verify it in the retail menus before committing.
Why does my search take forever with crossplay off?
Because you've cut yourself out of three of the four platform populations. It's worst in off-peak hours and in less-played modes like Ground War. Turn crossplay back on for those.
Hitting Level 30 before the beta closes on September 1 means grinding player XP in a shrinking window, and shrinking your own lobby pool makes that worse, not better. If you'd rather spend the weekend learning the maps than farming XP bars, our MW4 Beta Level 20 boostfrom $39.99 covers the reward track for you. Either way, leave crossplay on until the beta ends.
