How Long Does Orion Reforged Take in MW4?

How long does Orion Reforged take in MW4? Roughly 50–135 hours for the final challenge alone, and 150–300+ hours from a fresh account. Here are the match counts, our assumptions, the ban risk and your options.

How Long Does Orion Reforged Take in MW4?

For most players, Orion Reforged in MW4 takes about 50–135 hours of Multiplayer for the final challenge alone, which means 500 lives where you get 5 kills without dying. Starting from a fresh account, the total is closer to 150–300+ hours, because Divergence, Mercurial Drift and Polyatomic Reforged all have to be done first. MW4 launched on October 23, so nobody has real completion times yet. The numbers below come from our own model, and we explain every assumption.

If you'd rather skip the grind, there are two shortcuts. Our MW4 Mastery Camo Bundle (Divergence + Mode Mastery)from $1449.00 covers the whole chain from Harmonic Break to Orion in one order. If you only need the gate opened, the MW4 Divergence Camo Unlock (Harmonic Break on all 33 weapons)from $72.00 handles the part that blocks every mastery camo.

What has to happen before Orion even starts

Orion Reforged is the third and last Multiplayer mastery camo. You can't work on it early, and nothing you do before it opens counts toward it.

The full chain looks like this:

  • Shared camo track on every gun: 8 Military camos from weapon levels, then 3 Special camo challenges
  • Gold: 15 kills in a single Multiplayer match, on each weapon
  • Platinum: Gold on every weapon in a class, then that class's challenge
  • Harmonic Break: Platinum on all 33 weapons, then a per-weapon challenge (on the Han 86, for example, it's 25 double kills)
  • Divergence: awarded automatically once all 33 Harmonic Break challenges are done
  • Mercurial Drift: 10 kills in a match, 250 times
  • Polyatomic Reforged: 3 kills without taking damage, 300 times
  • Orion Reforged: 5 kills without dying, 500 times

The three mastery challenges add up to at least 5,900 kills, and those only count once Divergence is done. The last three steps can be completed with any weapon, so you can use whatever gun you're best with.

How long does it take? Hours and match counts

Verdict: Orion is mostly a test of survival, not speed. One death at 4 kills means that life doesn't count.

Here is how we modelled it:

  • 6v6 core modes, about 10 minutes per match plus roughly 1.5 minutes of lobby and loading, so about 5 matches per hour
  • A long life counts once. Nobody has confirmed whether 10 kills in one life counts as two streaks, so we assumed the slower case
  • Only Orion is included. The prerequisites are covered separately below
Player profile5-kill lives per matchMatches for 500Hours (Orion only)
Casual (~1.0 K/D)0.7–1500–70095–135
Solid (~1.5 K/D)1.5–2250–33050–65
Sweat (2.5+ K/D, slayer-focused)~3~170~33

The steps before Orion take even longer:

  • Mercurial Drift: a solid player who reaches 10 kills in most matches needs around 300 matches, or about 60 hours. A casual player needs 400+ matches.
  • Polyatomic Reforged: 3 kills without taking any damage is harsh in open lanes. Count on roughly 300–600 matches depending on skill.
  • Divergence: pre-launch estimates based on earlier games put Gold on every weapon alone at around 40–70 hours. Harmonic Break on all 33 guns sits on top of that.
Reality check: a casual player at 2 hours a night is looking at months, not weeks, to go from a fresh account to Orion. That's not a skill issue. It's simply how big the challenge counts are.

The boosting services we checked quote between 7 and 16 days for the full Orion chain. One listing claims 4–8 hours. Based on the match counts above, we'd be very sceptical of that. If you want the whole chain done for you, the Mastery Camo Bundlefrom $1449.00 covers everything from Harmonic Break up. If you already have the mastery camos handled and are stuck at the gate, the Divergence unlockfrom $72.00 is the cheaper option. Check the product page for the current estimated delivery time, because it depends on how much progress your account already has.

Is buying Orion Reforged safe? Will you get banned?

Verdict: the risk is low with a careful service, but it is not zero. Anyone who says otherwise is lying to you.

The facts:

  • Activision's Security and Enforcement Policy names boosting as a violation, and any penalty lands on the account holder.
  • In 2025, Activision said it had permanently banned accounts where boosting made up most of their recent activity. Those were described as extreme, repeated cases, not one-off orders.
  • Sharing your account is against the terms of service no matter who the booster is.

The things that usually get accounts flagged are cheats, unlock tools, glitch exploits and obvious lobby manipulation. AstroBoost uses none of them. Verified boosters complete your challenges in normal matches. That lowers the risk, but it can't remove it, and we won't pretend otherwise.

Rules that protect you on any order:

  • Never buy from a seller that promises "ban-proof" results.
  • Don't play on the account while an order is in progress.
  • Never charge back a completed order.

DIY, bot lobbies, or a full boost?

Verdict: pick based on where your account is right now.

  • Doing it yourself: free, but it takes the most time. It makes sense if you play every day and already finish most matches with a positive K/D.
  • Bot lobbies: cheap help for weapon levels and the early camo steps. It hasn't been confirmed that bot kills count toward the mastery challenges, so don't plan your Orion run around them. Our Camo Boost vs Bot Lobbies guide explains where each one fits.
  • Full boost: the fastest option, priced accordingly. It's best for players who want the camo early in the season while it's still rare.

Related questions

Does MWII Orion carry over to MW4? No. Owning Orion in Modern Warfare II doesn't unlock Orion Reforged. MW4 has its own separate progression.

Do I need all 33 weapons for Orion Reforged? Yes, indirectly. Divergence needs Harmonic Break on all 33 launch weapons, and every mastery camo is locked behind Divergence. Post-launch weapons are expected to let you skip some guns, but the total weapon count you need stays at 33.

Does Weapon Prestige count toward Orion? No. The Pyroclast camos are a separate Weapon Prestige track. Our Weapon Prestige guide covers that track.

Which mode is fastest for 5-kill streaks? Smaller 6v6 maps with steady action, played slowly and carefully. Running around chasing kills tends to end your lives before you reach 5.

From a fresh account, Orion Reforged works out to hundreds of matches across three separate mastery challenges, and that's after the Divergence work is done. If you'd rather spend that time playing the game the way you like, our MW4 Multiplayer Mastery Camos servicefrom $319.00 takes care of everything from Mercurial Drift to Orion Reforged.
