MW4 Editions Compared and Pre-Order Bonuses: What Do You Get?
MW4 has two digital editions: Standard at $69.99 and Vault at $99.99, or about $89.99 with the loyalty discount. Every digital pre-order gets Campaign Early Access on October 16, the Hunter Killer skin and the Inner Circuit M4 blueprint. Here is the full breakdown.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 comes in three versions: Digital Standard ($69.99), Digital Vault ($99.99, or about $89.99 with the 10% loyalty discount) and a physical Standard Edition for consoles. Every digital pre-order gets Campaign Early Access from October 16, the Hunter Killer Operator Skin, the Gilded Pearl Camo Pack and the Inner Circuit M4 Weapon Blueprint. That's the short answer to "mw4 editions compared and pre-order bonuses." The rest of this page covers the details that actually change which one you should buy.
One thing to know first: no edition speeds up progression. The Vault's Signature weapons come with some attachments already unlocked, but every other gun still levels the normal way. You can grind it yourself, use 2XP, or hand it to a weapon leveling boostfrom $4.99 if your time is short.

What every digital pre-order gets
Verdict: the pre-order bonuses are the same for Standard and Vault. Buying the expensive edition gets you no extra pre-order perks.
- Campaign Early Access, Friday October 16 (PT). This covers the campaign only. Multiplayer and DMZ open for everyone on October 23. Activision hasn't published an exact unlock time. Recent CoD early access windows opened at 10:00 AM PT, but treat that as a pattern, not a promise.
- Hunter Killer Operator Skin. It unlocks right away in Black Ops 7 and Warzone, then in MW4 at launch.
- Gilded Pearl Camo Pack. The Moonlit Pearl camo unlocks right away in BO7.
- Inner Circuit M4 Blueprint. It arrives at MW4 launch. Xbox Series X|S players get a translucent OG Green version for Xbox's 25th anniversary. Everyone else gets a mil-spec look.
- Open Beta Early Access. This was listed as a bonus, but the beta ran in late August. It's no longer worth anything.
Xbox's own store page also lists a $5 Xbox Gift Card promo for digital pre-orders. That one is limited to Xbox.
Pro tip: Physical copies get no campaign early access and none of the digital-only cosmetics. If the October 16 start matters to you, pre-order digitally on the platform you'll actually play on.
What the Vault Edition adds
Verdict: the Vault is worth it if you'd buy BlackCell anyway. If you wouldn't, it's mostly skins.
- Hostile Alliance Operator Pack: Price, Valeria, Ghost, Blix.
- Special Forces Operator Pack: four skins representing the UK, Germany, France and South Korea, each with a voice pack in its local language.
- Signature Weapon Collection: Kastov 762 Voltspine, ISO Nightshade La Sombra Venenosa, Rezi 12 Shattered Code, Oris 8.6 Volt-Edge and the Combat Knife Sombra Besada. Activision says the ranged weapons come with multiple attachments, including an Apex Attachment, all usable at launch.
- BlackCell (1 season): the Battle Pass, 20 Tier Skips, 1,100 CP and more. If you play before or during Season 1, you get Season 1 BlackCell. If you buy later, you get whichever season is live. Activision has said Season 1 starts in November but hasn't given a day; our MW4 Season 1 start date breakdown covers what the evidence points to.
- DMZ Deployment Bonus: Activision describes it only as "additional content in DMZ." The exact contents are not confirmed. Anyone listing specific items is guessing.
Vault Edition pros:
- BlackCell plus eight Operators is worth more than $30 if you buy at normal store prices
- The Signature weapons come with an Apex Attachment ready at launch
- The loyalty discount cuts the price gap to about $20
Vault Edition cons:
- It's all cosmetics and battle pass content. No modes or maps are locked behind it
- The DMZ bonus is still unknown
- BlackCell covers only one season
Loyalty discount and upgrade rules
Verdict: the discount is real, but the rules are strict.
- You get 10% off the Vault Edition only, and only when you pre-order or pre-purchase it through an official platform store.
- You must own and have played a qualifying title on the same platform account: Modern Warfare (2019), MW2 Campaign Remastered, Black Ops Cold War, Vanguard, MWII, MWIII, Black Ops 6 or Black Ops 7. On Xbox, playing one through Game Pass counts if your subscription is still active.
- The Vault Upgrade costs $30 and must be bought on the same platform as your Standard copy. Physical copies can't be upgraded.
- The loyalty discount does not apply to the upgrade.
Pro tip: If you're 80% sure you'll want Vault, buy it outright before launch. Buying Standard now and upgrading later means paying the full $30 difference and losing the roughly $10 loyalty discount.

Do pre-order bonuses carry over if I upgrade? Yes. The Vault includes the Digital Standard Edition and its pre-order incentives. Upgrading adds the Vault content on top of what you already have.
Does any edition include Double XP? Nothing in the official edition listings mentions 2XP tokens. If you're planning your first week, our MW4 launch plan covers how the launch XP events work.
Can I play DMZ during early access? No. October 16 is campaign only. DMZ and Multiplayer open on October 23.
The edition you pick changes your cosmetics, not your grind. Every launch weapon still needs dozens of matches to max out, Signature guns included if you want their camos. If you'd rather spend October playing than farming, our MW4 weapon leveling servicefrom $4.99 is one way to skip that part.
