MW4 DMZ Early Access Oct 20: Is the 3-Day Weapon XP Head Start Worth It?

MW4 DMZ Early Access opens October 20 for digital pre-orders, and weapon levels, attachments and camo progress all carry into Multiplayer. Here's how to spend the 3-day head start, what doesn't carry over, and when boosting makes sense.

MW4 DMZ Early Access Oct 20: Is the 3-Day Weapon XP Head Start Worth It?

Yes. MW4 DMZ Early Access opens on Tuesday, October 20, 2026 for digital pre-orders, and Infinity Ward has confirmed that weapon levels, attachment unlocks and camo progress earned there carry straight into Multiplayer. That gives you a real three-day head start on the grind before everyone else arrives on October 23. If you'd rather not spend those three days in a Hajin loot loop, our MW4 weapon leveling boostfrom $4.99 picks up your guns from launch day.

That's the short version. The details below decide whether those 72 hours actually pay off.

What changed: DMZ Early Access is official

Verdict: this is the biggest progression news of the pre-launch cycle.

As of the official DMZ Deep Dive (Part 2: Forward Operating Base), the rollout comes in three stages:

DateWhat opensWho gets it
Fri, Oct 16Campaign Early AccessDigital pre-orders (Standard Digital or Vault)
Tue, Oct 20All of DMZDigital pre-orders (Standard Digital or Vault)
Fri, Oct 23Full launch, including MultiplayerEveryone

It applies on every platform: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Battle.net, Steam and Nintendo Switch 2. Physical disc pre-orders don't qualify.

One caveat on timing. Activision hasn't officially published a start time. Some outlets expect the usual 9am PT update slot, and at least one Korean outlet lists the 21st, which is almost certainly just the time-zone rollover. Plan for the 20th, but don't book the day off on a guess.

Why it matters: shared progression

Verdict: DMZ XP isn't stuck in DMZ. It goes into the same guns you'll use in Multiplayer.

The official FOB guide says weapon progression is a global system. Levels earned in Multiplayer and DMZ count toward the same track, and each weapon also has its own Weapon Prestige. In the October 9 r/DMZ AMA, Infinity Ward added that the full camo grind is open during DMZ Early Access, and that DMZ XP also feeds your Core Multiplayer rank.

Here's what carries over and what doesn't:

Progress typeCarries DMZ → MP?
Weapon levelsYes
Attachment unlocksYes
Camo progressYes (weapon must come from your Stash or be found in Hajin)
Player rank (1-55)Yes, DMZ XP counts toward it
DMZ level (1-70)One-way: MP and Warzone XP don't count toward it
Weapon purchase accessNo, in either direction

That last row will catch people out. Unlocking a gun's right to be bought in DMZ doesn't transfer to Multiplayer, and the reverse is true too. The DMZ Gunsmith sells 32 weapons at launch, but only once you've found each gun's Weapon Manual in the zone.

Multiplayer players aren't thrilled about this. Some are already complaining that pre-order DMZ players will start MP on the 23rd with fully kitted guns. They're not wrong, but it's within the rules.

Pro tip: Pick your launch-day main before October 20. Three days is plenty for one or two weapons and nowhere near enough for ten. Spreading your XP thin is the most common way people waste an early access window.

The 3-day head start plan, step by step

Verdict: treat DMZ Early Access as a weapon farm with extraction attached, not a sightseeing trip.

  1. Pre-load and confirm eligibility. You need a digital pre-order of the Standard Digital or Vault Edition. Check it before Tuesday, not during.
  2. Hunt Weapon Manuals early. You can't level a gun you can't get hold of. Make the manual for your main a priority so the DMZ Gunsmith can sell it to you.
  3. Run the weapon you want in MP. Camo and level progress only count on weapons from your Stash or ones you pick up in Hajin. If you swap to a random floor loot gun, that gun gets the XP instead.
  4. Lean on Orders and AI fights. DMZ XP comes from missions, Orders, beating tough enemies and collecting resources. AI-heavy areas mean steady kills without the constant spawn-trapping of a 6v6.
  5. Save your Double Weapon XP for launch week, or burn it now. Double XP tokens from Black Ops 7 and Warzone carry over on the same Activision account. Token timers in MW4 only run during matches, so time spent in menus and queues doesn't eat into them. Our launch planning puts a cap of about one hour per day on token use, which makes daily sessions better than one marathon.
  6. Remember Player 2XP and Weapon 2XP are separate. A Player 2XP token won't touch your gun levels. Apex Attachments only unlock at max weapon level, so Weapon 2XP is the one that matters here.
Pro tip: DMZ awards XP whether you extract or die, but your gear doesn't survive a wipe. Bring a cheap build until your main is unlocked in the Gunsmith, and don't risk anything you care about.

The numbers we can confirm (and the ones we can't)

Verdict: the dates and caps are solid. XP-per-hour figures don't exist yet.

  • 3 days of DMZ before Multiplayer opens.
  • 1-70 DMZ Player Progression, which also feeds the 1-55 Player Rank.
  • 32 weapons in the DMZ Gunsmith at launch, each behind a Weapon Manual.
  • 66 Operator Traits across the Warfighter, Scout and Survivalist trees.

What isn't confirmed: how DMZ weapon XP per hour compares to Multiplayer. Infinity Ward hasn't said, and any "DMZ is 2x faster" claim you see right now is speculation. We'll update this when there's real launch data, not beta guesses.

Is boosting during the window safe?

Verdict: low risk with legitimate gameplay, never zero risk.

Anti-cheat is ramping up for this launch. RICOCHET is adding Server Culling, which keeps enemy location data off a player's hardware when they shouldn't be able to see it, and TeamRICOCHET has promised weekly anti-cheat updates through Season 1. That system targets cheat software, and it's exactly why we never use any.

Every AstroBoost order is played by hand by verified boosters through normal gameplay. No hacks, no unlock tools, no exploits. That said, any service where someone else plays on your account carries some risk under Activision's terms, and anyone selling a "ban-proof" boost is lying to you. For the full rundown on that risk, read are MW4 bot lobbies legit, and can they get you banned.

One honest scheduling note: our MW4 services are listed from launch day, October 23. Bot lobbies in particular are a Multiplayer service, so they don't exist during the DMZ window. That leaves you a simple split. Use October 20-22 to farm your main in DMZ yourself, then let us handle the rest of your arsenal once Multiplayer goes live.

What to expect next

Verdict: launch week will move fast, so plan around it.

Multiplayer, Warzone integration and the full camo grind across every mode arrive on October 23. The Battle Pass and the Season 1 roadmap are still the big unknowns, and expect tuning patches early. Infinity Ward ran several TTK passes during the beta, so the launch meta could shift within days. Don't spend every Weapon 2XP token on a gun that might get nerfed in week one.

Three days in Hajin will max one or two guns at best. The rest of your loadout, plus every attachment and camo, still adds up to dozens of hours of grinding after launch. If you'd rather spend that time playing than farming, our MW4 weapon leveling boostfrom $4.99 takes your chosen guns to max level, Apex Attachment included, starting on launch day.

Vetted boosters handle the grind covered in this guide, with live support and scheduled delivery.
