MW4 Best Guns Launch Meta Tier List: What Will Be Meta Oct 23?
No official MW4 launch meta exists yet. Going by the final beta build, the M4 and ISO Nightshade are the safest picks for October 23, and the Kastov 762 sits third. Here's the projected tier list and what's still unconfirmed.

There's no confirmed MW4 launch meta tier list yet because the game doesn't release until October 23, 2026. Going by the final open beta build, though, the M4 and ISO Nightshade are the safest best guns for launch, and the Kastov 762 is a clear third. Anything past that top three is a forecast. Infinity Ward is still tuning weapons, and the Beta only offered up to 22 of the 33 weapons available at launch.

Put your day-one Weapon XP into those three. You can grind them to their Apex Attachments yourself in normal matches. If you'd rather skip the first-week grind, our MW4 weapon leveling boostfrom $4.99 is another way to do it.
Launch-day quick-start checklist
- Level the M4 first. In the beta it unlocked at Player Rank 9, so you'll have it early.
- Pair it with the ISO Nightshade for close range.
- Keep the Kastov 762 as your third gun if you like holding long lanes.
- Don't level the Type 73 or FiNN LMG yet. Both were nerfed late in the beta.
- Read the day-one patch notes before you lock in. Beta balance isn't launch balance.

MW4 best guns launch meta tier list (projected)
Verdict: assault rifles and SMGs are at the top, and everything else depends on the situation.
This is the AstroBoost team's read after comparing several beta tier lists with the final beta patch notes. It isn't official, and it will change once launch tuning goes live.
| Tier | Weapon | Class | Why | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| S | M4 | AR | Most consistent gun at every range | High |
| S | ISO Nightshade | SMG | Best close-range gun, buffed on the last beta day | High |
| S | Kastov 762 | AR | Hits hard, great on long lanes | Medium-high |
| A | Han 86 | AR | Easy to control, buffed late | Medium |
| A | PPSh-41 | SMG | Huge magazine for aggressive play | Medium |
| A | KG-7 Vulcan | Sniper | Reliable one-shot potential | Medium |
| B | X-58 Nyx, Patriot XMR, Hyeon Burst | SMG/AR | Fine guns that are outclassed by the S tier | Low |
| B | Rezi 12, Signal .50, Oris 8.6 | Shotgun/Sniper/DMR | Depend on the map | Low |
| C | Type 73, FiNN LMG, MAR-9 | LMG/DMR | Nerfed, or simply not worth the XP | Low |
Why the M4 leads
Almost everyone used it. One stats tracker logged a 52.1% pick rate for the M4 during the beta, about three times higher than the next gun. Its base weapon was untouched on August 31, and the M4 Hurricane Apex was the only part of it that got nerfed. It's the boring, correct choice.
Why the ISO Nightshade is a strong second
It went into the final beta day strong and came out stronger. Its maximum damage increased from 20 to 21, close-range damage range increased, and its Head Damage Multiplier increased from 1.25 to 1.3. SMGs may get more tuning before launch (details below), so this is the S-tier pick most likely to move.
Why the Kastov 762 is still third
It took a big hit in Weekend 2: Max 34 → 30; mid 29 → 24; min 23 → 21. It still finished in the top three on most lists. The trade-off stays the same as before: more damage per shot and better long-range reach, at the cost of slower handling and a punchier kick.
Where the tier lists disagree
Verdict: when two lists disagree, check the date they were published.
- Oris 8.6: One site ranks it #1 overall, while another puts it at C-tier. The marksman rifle then had its strongest damage ranges shortened, so treat the high rankings with caution.
- Han 86: It's S-tier on some lists and B-tier on others. The lower rankings mostly came before the late buff, which raised its maximum damage from 22 to 23 and minimum damage from 18 to 19.
- Type 73: A few early lists rated it highly. Then its maximum damage dropped from 28 to 22, which puts it in C-tier.
A beta tier list is a snapshot of a game that no longer exists. The guns that stayed on top after every patch are the ones to trust.
What changes before launch? Confirmed vs. unconfirmed
Confirmed: The launch arsenal is 33 weapons: 24 primaries, 8 secondaries, and 1 melee weapon. Gunplay is also different from older CoD games: MW4's Ballistic Authority system removes hipfire bloom entirely. That suits SMGs with good hipfire, like the ISO.
Reported, not in official patch notes: Coverage of a recent developer talk says the launch version is expected to maintain a TTK closer to beta weekend two, while SMGs and one-shot weapons receive additional tuning. We don't know which direction that tuning goes, or how big it is.
Unknown: The 11 unannounced weapons. In the beta, the Axion AR was default-only, so nobody has seen it with a proper build. Any of these could change the top of the list on day one.
Quick answers
Is the M4 the best gun in MW4 at launch? Probably. It's the safest bet, but launch tuning could change that.
What's the best sniper? In the beta, the KG-7 Vulcan. It can produce reliable one-shot kills with accurate shots toward the head or upper chest. The Signal .50 is the heavier alternative. One-shot weapons are reportedly getting retuned, so this pick is the least certain.
Best LMG? There isn't a clear one. Both LMGs were nerfed, so wait for launch data.
Related questions
How many guns are in MW4 at launch? 33, and 22 of them were shown in the beta. Every "full list" you see right now is missing 11 guns.
Should I level the Han 86? Yes, as a second AR. It's may be the easiest gun in the Beta to control, and its late buff made it competitive with the other ARs.
When will the real launch meta be clear? Not until people have played the launch build and the first balance patch is out. Expect tier lists to change during launch week.
Leveling three guns to their Apex Attachments while the meta is still changing takes a lot of launch-week matches, especially if a patch makes you switch. If you'd rather use that time playing with finished builds, our MW4 weapon leveling boostfrom $4.99 can level your chosen guns through normal gameplay.
