How to Get Bot Lobbies in MW4: Which Method Actually Works?
There's no bot lobby button in MW4. You get one through a private match, Open Matchmaking, region tricks, or a hosted self-play lobby. Here's how the four compare on progression, ban risk and cost.

The only reliable way to get bot lobbies in MW4 is to join a hosted private session where every enemy is a bot. Modern Warfare 4 has no official "bot lobby" mode and no SBMM off switch. Every other route either gives you weaker progression, gives you no guaranteed difficulty, or carries real ban risk.
With MW4 launching on October 23, 2026, every Soldier Rank, weapon level and Apex Attachment starts at zero. If you know how to get bot lobbies in MW4 from day one, you skip the worst part of that grind. If you'd rather not set anything up yourself, our MW4 bot lobbiesfrom $4.99 put you in a never-ending match against five enemy bots, on your own account, starting at $4.99.
How to get bot lobbies in MW4: the 4 routes compared
Verdict: only one route gives you both full control and real progression. Here's how they stack up.
| Method | Guaranteed easy lobby? | Progression counts? | Ban risk | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Private Match vs bots (DIY) | Yes | Historically little or none | None | Free |
| Open Matchmaking playlists | No | Yes | None | Free |
| VPN / region manipulation | No | Yes | Real | VPN subscription |
| Hosted self-play bot lobby | Yes | Yes, per provider setup | Low, not zero | From $4.99 |
1. Private Match vs bots: safe, but not built for grinding
An official Private or Custom Match with AI bots is a long-running Call of Duty feature and is expected in MW4. The problem is XP. In past CoD titles, players earned little or no XP from private matches. That makes them good for testing a build and useless for a camo grind. Activision hasn't confirmed MW4's private match XP rules, so check after launch before you count on them.
2. Open Matchmaking: softer lobbies, still real players
In the beta, Activision tested Open Matchmaking playlists that put much less weight on skill. These lobbies have a wider range of player skill, but they're still public matches. One match you're farming, the next you're up against a five-stack. We break down how they work in MW4 Open Matchmaking Explained.
3. VPNs and region tricks: the risky shortcut
Third-party VPN tools are already being sold for MW4, promising softer lobbies by changing which region you connect through. Be careful here. Activision's security policy says hiding or disguising your identity or hardware can lead to a permanent suspension. Players have also reported Activision cracking down on matchmaking manipulation. On top of that, MW4 runs RICOCHET Anti-Cheat and needs TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot on PC. This is a bad time to experiment with network tricks.
Reverse boosting (tanking your stats on purpose to drop your skill rating) is worse. Activision has suspended and banned accounts for it in past games. Don't do it.
4. Hosted self-play bot lobbies: the fastest route
A provider hosts the match, fills the enemy team with bots and invites you in. You play on your own account and get every kill yourself. This is the only route that gives you a guaranteed easy lobby and credits progress to your profile.
Are hosted bot lobbies safe?
Verdict: low risk when nobody touches your login, but no service can honestly promise zero risk.
The biggest safety factor is what a seller asks you for. Self-play lobbies only need your Activision ID and an in-game invite. Some sellers ask for your password, email access or 2FA codes. Once someone has your email and recovery options, they can take over more than your CoD account.
The rule is simple: if a bot lobby seller asks for your password, email login or 2FA codes for a self-play session, walk away.
To be clear about where these services stand: Activision's enforcement policies have long treated working with other players to farm XP or unlocks as boosting. Penalties have ranged from stat resets to suspensions. Anyone advertising a "100% ban-proof" lobby is lying. What lowers the risk is no cheats, no injectors, no account sharing and no VPN routing. Pros and cons of hosted self-play lobbies
Pros
- Guaranteed easy lobby: five enemy bots, and the match doesn't end
- Weapon XP, player XP and camo challenge progress go to your own account
- No password or account access needed, just your Activision ID
- Cross-play on PS5, Xbox, PC and Switch 2
- Cheapest paid option: about $5 a session
Cons
- Not an official Activision feature, so some risk remains
- You still have to play the session yourself
- Sessions are scheduled, so you can't jump in whenever you like
- Kill-based challenges are trivial, but not every challenge type is supported
How ordering works (and what to check)
The process is the same at any good provider:
- Pick a package. Choose your number of sessions and any add-ons.
- Give your lobby details. You provide your Activision ID, platform and region. No password.
- Get the invite. Lobby instructions come through a private order chat.
- Grind. Pick the gun you're leveling and farm kills, headshots and challenge progress.
Competitor bot lobbies currently start at around $5.90 per session. Ours start at $4.99. Price matters less than the rule above: self-play with no credentials is the setup to look for.
Related questions
Is there an SBMM toggle in MW4? No. The beta offered Open Matchmaking playlists alongside standard matchmaking, but there's no switch in the menu to turn skill matching off. Whether Open Matchmaking stays after launch is covered in our SBMM guide.
Do private matches with bots give XP in MW4? It hasn't been confirmed. In earlier Call of Duty games, private matches gave little or no XP, so don't plan a camo grind around them until launch-day testing shows otherwise.
Can I get bot lobbies on console? Yes. Self-play lobbies use cross-play, so PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch 2 players can all join the same hosted session.
What if I don't want to play the lobby at all? Then a bot lobby isn't what you need. Our MW4 weapon leveling boostfrom $4.99 has a verified booster level the gun for you through normal play.
Leveling every gun and working through mastery camos in public matches takes dozens of hours, and you'll spend much of that time losing to SBMM. If you'd rather spend those hours on kills that actually count, our MW4 bot lobbiesfrom $4.99 give you a controlled session on your own account for about the price of a coffee.
