BO7 Camo Not Tracking? 7 Fixes That Actually Work (2026)
BO7 camo challenges stuck at 0? Most of the time it's a challenge condition, not a bug. Here's the fix order that works in Season 5 Reloaded — plus the tracking bugs that are genuinely broken.

Nine times out of ten, a Black Ops 7 camo challenge that "won't track" is not bugged — it's a hidden condition you're failing (wrong mode, wrong weapon class, or progress that only commits at the end-of-match tally). The rest of the time it's the camo-system refresh bug, and that one has a 60-second fix.
That matters because camo grinds are measured in hours, not minutes. Once tracking is confirmed working, the only variable left is kills per minute — which is why plenty of players finish tiers in private bot lobbiesfrom $2.56 instead of sweating in ranked-adjacent pubs. But fix the tracking first. Grinding a challenge that isn't counting is the worst possible use of your evening.
Quick-fix checklist
Work top to bottom. Stop the moment your counter moves.
- Read the challenge text, not the camo name. Weapon class, kill type and mode restrictions are all in there.
- Unequip the camo, back out of the menu, fully restart the game. This is the fix for the "challenge text is blank / counter frozen at 0" version.
- Finish the match. Some progress only commits on the end-of-match tally, not live.
- Hard-close and relaunch (full quit — not rest mode, not quick resume) to re-sync challenge state with the servers.
- Strip and re-apply your attachments, then re-equip the weapon.
- Check you're on the latest title update.
- Check the official Trello board before you burn another two hours.
Fix 1 — It's the challenge conditions, not the game
Verdict: this is the cause of most "broken" camos.
BO7 camo challenges count kills that satisfy every condition at once. Miss one and you get a flat zero with no error message. A requirement like "get 5 SMG kills in a single match, 5 times" only counts kills with the correct weapon class. Swap to your secondary for the finishing blow and that kill is gone.
Mode matters just as much. Military camos have to be completed in Multiplayer — Zombies and Endgame don't count toward them. If you've been farming a Military tier in a round-based map, that's your answer, and no restart will recover it.
Rule of thumb: if the counter is at zero and the challenge text is visible and correct, you're not hitting a condition. If the text is missing or blank, that's the bug in Fix 2.
Fix 2 — The camo-system refresh (unequip, back out, restart)
Verdict: the single most reliable fix for a genuinely stuck tier.
The well-documented version of this is the Raptor camo glitch. Raptor sits in the Special tier and only unlocks after all Multiplayer Military camos are done for that weapon — but a progression glitch stops the game registering that completion, leaving the camo locked, the challenge requirements missing and kill tracking pinned at 0. Reports centred on the M15, but it can hit any Multiplayer weapon.
The fix: remove the equipped weapon camo, back out of the menu, and restart the game — this refreshes the camo progression system so kills start counting again. It can come back if you swap loadouts, change camos, or bounce between modes too fast, so re-check the counter after your first match.
Fix 3 — Finish the match, then hard-close
Verdict: fixes the "my kills counted, then vanished" complaint.
Not all progress is live. Some challenge progress only commits at the end-of-match tally rather than updating in real time, so backing out early can cost you the whole match. If the bar is still frozen after a clean finish, a full quit and relaunch re-syncs your challenge state with the servers.
On console, "full quit" means closing the application — not suspending it.
Fix 4 — Re-equip attachments and the weapon itself
Removing and re-adding attachments helps reset challenge conditions, especially on challenges that ask for movement or specific kill types. Worth noting Treyarch has already chased related armory weirdness: Season 5 addressed cases of camos being stripped from weapons on infil.
Fix 5 — Warzone mastery camos have rules that look like bugs
Verdict: not broken, just brutally specific.
The Warzone mastery tier is where the false bug reports pile up. Absolute Zero only counts eliminations earned after your match reaches the Top 10 squads, with that exact weapon equipped — kills in the first 20 minutes of a BR add nothing, which is exactly why it looks broken. Assists don't count either.
There are real exceptions here. A separate genuine tracking bug has been reported on crossbows and bows. Community reports also claim the NX Ravager fails to register Top 10 eliminations with no known workaround — that one is player-reported, not developer-confirmed, so treat it as unverified and pick a different gun until it's addressed.
Bug or challenge rules? Quick diagnosis table
| Symptom | Most likely cause | Fix | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Counter at 0, challenge text visible | Wrong mode / weapon class | Re-read conditions, switch to Multiplayer | Working as intended |
| Camo locked, challenge text blank or missing | Camo system not activated on backend | Unequip camo → back out → restart | Community fix, widely reported working |
| Progress shows in-match then disappears | Progress commits on end-of-match tally | Finish the match, then hard-close | Community fix |
| Warzone mastery stuck despite 20+ kills | Top 10 endgame requirement | Survive to endgame, get the elims yourself | Working as intended |
| Crossbow / bow mastery frozen | Genuine tracking bug | None reliable — use another weapon | Reported bug |
| Camo gone from weapon on spawn | Armory/infil sync issue | Patch up | Addressed in Season 5 |
Fix 6 — Patch up before you troubleshoot
Mid-cycle Season 5 patches have already changed challenge behaviour, so confirm you're on the latest title update. Treyarch has a track record here: preseason patches fixed Mastery Camo challenge requirements that were three times larger than intended and a Mutilate camo challenge that wouldn't progress, and Season 5 shipped further fixes for progression and weapon camo bugs. Season 5 Reloaded is the current live update, and it closes out the Zombies storyline with Rex Infernus, adds the Turbo Tilt map and Freerun: Descent, and hands out the Mace melee weapon through extra Weekly Challenges — a lot of new challenge plumbing, and new plumbing leaks.
If you're mid-way through the mastery chain and unsure which tier you're actually blocked on, our breakdown of what a BO7 mastery camo boost actually includes maps out the order in plain terms. Chasing the Zombies side instead? The Zombies bot lobby reality check is worth two minutes before you buy anything.
If nothing works
Verdict: stop grinding, start documenting.
- Check the official Trello board. Treyarch points players there for the latest on known issues and bugs it's tracking. Active investigation cards carry a start date, and resolved cards get an updated date, so you can see whether your issue is actually being worked on.
- File a ticket with proof. If progress or items stay missing, contact Activision Support with screenshots for a manual fix. Include the weapon, the exact challenge text, and your match ID if you can get it.
- Move to a different weapon. Confirmed tracking bugs get patched on Treyarch's schedule, not yours. Park the gun and grind something that counts.
Even with tracking behaving perfectly, a full Military → Special → Mastery chain is a multi-hour commitment per weapon, and the endgame tiers are worse. If you'd rather skip straight to the reactive payoff, our BO7 Genesis camo boostfrom $5.99 clears the remaining tiers with you in the lobby and in control of your account.
