ARC Raiders S5 Mod Meta: Which of 4 Spiking Mods to Craft First
Extended Barrel III, Vertical Grip III, Stable Stock III and Lightweight Stock are all spiking in demand this Trials Season 5. Here's which blueprint to farm first, where they drop, and whether it's worth the grind.

If you can only chase one spiking mod blueprint in Trials Season 5, make it Vertical Grip III or Stable Stock III — both are cheap to craft (2 Mod Components + 5 Duct Tape) and fit almost every meta weapon, while Extended Barrel III and Lightweight Stock are more situational. Four equipment mods are surging in demand right now, and the reason is simple: the current live update changed how mods behave, and the harder Season 5 Trials are pushing players toward reliable, recoil-friendly builds.
I'm Ivy Kestrel. I've run enough Buried City loops to know which blueprints are worth breaking cover for and which ones are a coin sink. Let's sort this one out.
What changed, and when
As of the Fourth Expedition and Trials Season 5, the mod meta shifted for two connected reasons. First, Live Update 1.36.0 shipped alongside the Fourth Expedition and Trials Season 5, ARC Turbine loot value was significantly increased, and weapons now display installed mods when dropped. That last change matters more than it sounds — people can now see exactly what's on a dead Raider's gun, and "good mods win fights" became visible proof.
Second, Trials Season 5 runs from July 7, 2026 through September 30, 2026, and finishing the Trials during the event window earns Scorta outfit variants based on your final placement. And the community consensus is blunt: Trials Season 5 has begun and the trials feel more difficult than before, so to complete them you'll probably need some weapons to your advantage. Harder Trials means fewer forgiving fights, which means stable, predictable weapons — exactly what these four mods deliver.
The groundwork was laid earlier. In patch 1.29.0, weapon mods can now affect aim-down-sights transition speed for scoped weapons, the Extended Barrel's bullet velocity bonus was increased from 25 to 30%, its damage fall-off distance was increased by 15%, and it was renamed to Extended Barrel III. That buff is a big part of why the barrel is back in rotation.
Field note: Since weapons now show their mods on the ground, I've started deliberately looting kills for their attachments instead of just their ammo. A dead player's Extended Barrel III is a free craft you didn't have to farm.
The four spiking mods, head to head
They do very different jobs. Don't buy the hype and slap all four on one gun — half of them fight each other.
| Mod | What it does | Craft cost | Rarity / fit | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vertical Grip III | Slightly reduces vertical recoil — controls kick on autos | 2x Mod Components, 5x Duct Tape | Rare item, fits ~19 weapons | Recoil-heavy autos and SMGs |
| Stable Stock III | Significantly improves dispersion and recoil recovery time | 2x Mod Components, 5x Duct Tape | Rare, broad fit | Semi-auto & burst accuracy |
| Extended Barrel III | Moderately increases bullet velocity (30% after buff) | Blueprint-locked craft | Compatible with fewer guns | Long-range / sniping |
| Lightweight Stock | Faster aim, equip, and swap speed | 2x Mod Components, 5x Duct Tape | Epic, broad fit | Close-mid aggressive play |
The key trade-off pattern: stocks pull in opposite directions. Stable Stock III means your weapon settles faster after firing, but feels a bit slower when switching or readying the weapon. Lightweight Stock is the mirror image — in practice it gives you faster reactions and smoother weapon swapping, but noticeably worse recoil control during sustained fire. You pick one based on your range, not both.
Grips split by weapon class too. The general recommendation is a Horizontal Grip unless you're using SMGs; with SMGs you should only use Vertical Grips, since the upgraded SMGs have lower horizontal recoil. And note the modern downside on higher tiers: on higher rarities, grips increase the ADS time. That's the cost of stability now — a hair slower to aim.
Which to craft first
Craft priority: Vertical Grip III → Stable Stock III → Extended Barrel III → Lightweight Stock.
My reasoning after enough Season 5 runs:
- Vertical Grip III is the widest-use, cheapest control upgrade. It's a Rare modification compatible with the Ferro, Kettle, Rattler, Stitcher, Arpeggio, Il Toro, Venator, Bettina, Bobcat, Tempest, Vulcano and Aphelion. If you run any auto, you'll use it.
- Stable Stock III is the accuracy backbone for semi-auto and burst shooters. It's very important for semi-automatic guns, as it lets them reset before firing the next shot, making them extremely accurate.
- Extended Barrel III only earns its slot at range. On the Osprey the velocity increase is the most valuable muzzle option — you're sniping at range, and faster bullets mean less lead on moving targets at distance. Skip it on close-range builds.
- Lightweight Stock last, because it's a specialist. Great for aggressive pushes, actively bad for holding lanes.
Where the blueprints drop (updated method)
None of these have a guaranteed spawn — they're loot-pool RNG. But the pools are known. Stable Stock III blueprints appear inside containers like Boxes, Ammo Crates, Breachable Containers and Lockers, across maps such as the Spaceport, Blue Gate, Dam Battlegrounds, Buried City and Riven Tides. The stock blueprints are topside loot, so surface runs beat basement crawls here.
For the grip, target density over a specific room: Vertical Grip II is a standard Residential drop found in wardrobes and drawers, and focusing on Residential areas with a high density of containers should be your primary strategy. The Extended Barrel III blueprint sits higher on the loot table — it's usually reserved for the high-tier loot table, most likely to appear during 2x Map Conditions and special Map Events like Locked Gate.
What to bring on a mod-farming run:
- A quiet mid-range weapon (you're avoiding fights, not starting them)
- Lockpicks / breach tools for Breachable Containers and Lockers
- Enough stash space — extra blueprints sell, so no wasted pickups
- A duo or trio partner to cover you while you loot Residential rooms
And extract early. Hoarding for too long usually leads to losing the entire run. Two clean extracts beat one greedy wipe every time.
The honest reality of the grind
Here's the part nobody likes: these are RNG drops. There is no fixed or guaranteed spawn location for the Vertical Grip III blueprint — like most blueprints, it drops randomly from loot containers. You can do everything right and still walk away empty after a dozen runs. There's also a free shortcut worth remembering: blueprints can drop as a reward from weekly Trials, so 3-star all your weekly Trials to maximize efficiency. With Season 5 running until September 30, that's a full stack of guaranteed rolls you shouldn't skip.
What to expect next
Embark is still tuning. The team has acknowledged durability changes were felt too much on some weapons and is targeting the worst offenders, and will keep monitoring feedback and adjusting. Expect more small balance passes through the season, which means the exact "best" mod could shift again. Craft the versatile ones first (grip, stable stock) so a patch can't strand you.
Realistically, chasing a specific mod blueprint through pure RNG can eat dozens of raids with nothing to show. If you'd rather spend Season 5 actually running Trials than farming wardrobes, keeping a healthy ARC Raiders Coinsfrom $0.80 balance lets you craft and rebuild loadouts the moment a blueprint finally drops. It won't roll the dice for you — but it means you're never stuck unable to build the gun you just unlocked.
