Warzone Ranked Play Loadouts & Rules: Complete 2026 Guide

Ranked Resurgence only allows Black Ops 7 weapons plus a rotating list of banned perks and attachments. Here's the full rulebook, the ranked-legal meta picks, the PC requirements, and the mistakes that quietly cost you SR.

Warzone Ranked Play Loadouts & Rules: Complete 2026 Guide

Warzone Ranked Play: Resurgence locks you to Black Ops 7 weapons only, with extra perk and attachment restrictions on top — so "the best ranked loadout" always means the strongest BO7 gun that hasn't been banned this season. Activision's own description of the mode is blunt about it: matches run on a refined ruleset, weapons are restricted to those found in Black Ops 7, and some perks and attachments are off the table while you climb Skill Divisions for exclusive rewards. Learn the rulebook once and you stop wasting matches on loadouts the game won't even let you drop with.

That's the easy part. The hard part is the 60-plus hours of Trios queueing between Bronze and the top divisions — which is why plenty of players just take a Warzone Ranked Resurgence boostfrom $4.99 and skip the plateau. Either way, this guide is the version of Ranked that stays true across patches: what's restricted, what to run, and what quietly bleeds your SR.

Quick-start checklist

  1. Qualify first. You need 20 top placements — top 15 in Battle Royale or top 6 in Resurgence — and Casual BR and LTMs do not count.
  2. Strip your loadout to BO7 guns. Anything from an older Call of Duty is dead weight in the Ranked menu.
  3. Delete every thermal optic from your ranked classes. They've been banned in Ranked for years.
  4. Check the season's restriction list in the patch notes before your first game, not after your first loss.
  5. PC players: verify TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are enabled before queueing.
  6. Queue in a fixed Trio. Ranked Resurgence is Trios-only, so a random third is a coin flip you pay for in SR.

What Ranked Play actually restricts

Verdict: the ban list is longer than most players think, and it rotates.

The categories that have stayed banned season after season:

  • Off-generation weapons. Every weapon from the previous Modern Warfare titles has been banned in Warzone Ranked Play. In the BO7 era that means BO7 guns only.
  • Launchers. All launchers are banned — multi-kill explosive spam and anti-vehicle cheese don't belong in a competitive ruleset.
  • Attachments. All thermal optics, all underbarrel launchers, the CHF barrel, and Rapid Fire and Dragon's Breath mods have all appeared on the restricted list.
  • Perks, wildcards and features. Past ranked seasons have also stripped out Birdseye and Specialist perks, the Bandolier wildcard, Big Bertha, live pings, High Value Loot Zones, Gulag rocks, emotes, and shooting during free fall.

One thing to internalise: the exact rotation changes from season to season, but there will always be limits on what you can equip. Mid-season bans happen too — a previous ranked season saw the X52 Resonator special weapon restricted in Ranked Play in a mid-season patch. If a gun feels absurd in casual Resurgence, assume it's on borrowed time in Ranked.

If your loadout only works because of one attachment, you're one patch note away from being bad at the game. Build classes you can still win with after a nerf.

The ranked-legal meta right now (September 2026)

Verdict: one AR, one SMG, one bolt-action. Everything else is preference.

As of the Season 5 data, community trackers put the same core weapons at the top of both open Resurgence and Ranked Resurgence: AN-94, REV-46, MK35 ISR, RYDEN 45K and FG42. The AN-94 leads the long-range meta while the REV-46 sits at number one for close range.

Build logic beats gun choice. Long-range class: prioritise recoil control and bullet velocity, because Resurgence rooftops punish spray. Close-range class: ADS speed and sprint-to-fire, because Resurgence gunfights start inside 15 metres. And since thermals are banned, you're reading rotations with your eyes — smoke plays get much stronger.

Requirements and lockouts (PC players, read this)

Verdict: Ranked is the strictest anti-cheat environment in the game.

When Ranked Play: Resurgence launched in Season 2, RICOCHET Anti-Cheat began requiring a stronger form of Remote Attestation for PC players in partnership with Microsoft, layered on top of the existing TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot requirements. Practical translation: if TPM 2.0 or Secure Boot is off in your BIOS, you won't be climbing anything. Fix it before you queue, not at 1am after your third failed attestation.

The SR math that decides your season

Verdict: you don't lose rank in gunfights, you lose it in bad drops.

Ranked runs on Skill Rating — you gain SR for performing well and lose it for underperforming, and higher ranks add a Deployment Fee, an SR cost paid before the match even starts, so climbing gets harder because you must out-earn the entry cost. That single mechanic is why Diamond-plus players suddenly stall. If you want the full breakdown, we cover SR and the deployment fee explained separately, along with how long Iridescent actually takes at realistic win rates.

One structural note: there are eight Skill Divisions, and everyone starts in Bronze 1 at 0 SR. Nobody skips the early grind — they just get through it faster.

Season 6 changes to plan around

Verdict: this is the last big BO7 season, so ranked rewards have a deadline.

Season 6 is set to launch on Thursday, September 17, 2026, and it's the final major battle royale update before MW4. The Haunting returns, with Haunted Hollow bringing cosmic horrors and a Ghost Train to the small-town Resurgence map, and the official content summary includes a Resurgence Ranked Play section with new challenges, prestige titles and rewards. MW4 isn't expected to be integrated into Warzone until late November or early December, and there may not be a Reloaded update at all this cycle. It's also been reported that Warzone is shutting down on Xbox One and PS4 at the end of BO7 Season 6 — treat platform details as unconfirmed until Activision states them officially.

Short season, seasonal rewards, hard cutoff. Don't start your climb in week five.

Common mistakes that cost you rank

  • Queueing before you've checked the ban list. Building around a restricted attachment wastes your first three games.
  • Running two long-range guns. Resurgence decides most fights indoors. Take the SMG.
  • Playing edge-of-map to survive. Placement pays, but SR is driven by survival time, eliminations and completing match challenges — passive play earns you almost nothing.
  • Solo-queueing at high SR. In a Trios-only mode with a Deployment Fee, a disconnected random is a direct SR loss.
  • Chasing the number-one gun weekly. The list gets reshuffled constantly; consistency on one AR beats relearning recoil every patch.

A realistic Bronze-to-Iridescent run in a shortened season is 60+ hours of focused Trios, and that's assuming your third teammate shows up. If you'd rather own the rewards without the deployment-fee grind, our Ranked boost from Bronze to Iridescentfrom $4.99 is handled by players who live in this mode. Either way, learn the ruleset first — it's the cheapest SR you'll ever gain.
